giffgaff's Xmas surprise – get your mates on giffgaff and earn yourself payback points!

by handy giff-staffer kimatgiffgaff 23-December-2009 15:13

Now that we're all covered up in snow and struggling to sing Mariah Carrey's "All I want for Xmas is youuuuu", we thought it would be nice to give a Xmas surprise to all our members. Since its now time for meeting our family and friends, we thought you'd appreciate if we made it easier for you to get your mates on board giffgaff, and for you to earn a whopping 500 payback points for each ones that joins!

If you've already ordered and activated your SIM, you can send/give a SIM card to your mates. Once your friend activates the SIM, you'll earn 500 payback  points. There’s no limit to the number of points you can earn, so the more friends you get onboard giffgaff the more you’ll get back at payback time in May. To start with, you can order up to 5 individual SIM packs at a time, as each one gets activated you can order another one.

You can either arrange SIMs to be dropped to your mates doorstep (let them know it’s coming) - or you can enter your own postal details and hand it to them when you next see them. And as a special treat for your friend taking your advice to sign up to giffgaff, when they top-up £10 to activate, we'll put an extra £5 credit on their account to get them started.

So, your mates will get £5 extra credit – and you could earn yourself unlimited payback points to turn into cash in May, plus you’ll get to talk to and text each other for free.  Merry Xmas giffgaffers!

If you are already registered head to spread the word to benefit from this offer

This is an excellent idea - it's important that both sides get something out of the recommendation, not just the existing Giffgaff member.

But I have a question related to this: if someone quotes a Giffgaff member's member name when they order a SIM, that member gets 200 payback points. But does that person ordering the SIM get anything? Maybe they should get £2 of extra credit too?

Hi tamino,

First off, thanks for your contribution :smileyhappy: It's much appreciated and I hope you'll continue to do so.

As for your question, I see what you're saying there and that  way it would kinda work like the 'send a friend a sim' system that we've got.

The reasoning why the 'recommended by' person gets the 200 points, is that they've obviously done something to get you this far. They either talked about giffgaff in a very positive way, or maybe showed you our site, or one of the video's our members have made, etc. etc.

But that person hasn't gone as far as sending or handing you a sim. Hence they don't get 500 points, but because of their attitude and because they are generally a nice person, we wanted to give you the option of giving him or her a little something. Hence the 200 points :smileyhappy:

So it's more of a choice for you, giving your favorite giffgaffer an extra 200 points.

But if you think the person ordering the sim should also get something for putting in the name of a giffgaffer, then by all means, put it in the ideas tool here, and we'll review it. It's that easy really :smileyhappy:

Cheers,

Vincent
