If you're using an unlocked handset an d the settings come via text you need to save the settings and activate it. If you have to enter them manually then save them and also activate them. Where Opera Mini is stored on a SE is I think entertainment> applications> scroll down to Opera Mini and select options>then select Internet settings make sure Giffgaff is displayed.
Opera Mini should now work.

Downloaded the latest version of Opera mini as the original on my phone is nearly 2 year old, encountered the same problem I'm afraid. The problem seems to be with the 'access point' as my default config. settings are on giffgaff but the access point gives me the option of:
O2 Active Pay & Go
O2 Active PayMonthly
O2 MobileWeb
My access point
I can access the web through the phones browser but not through any apps!

Might be long shot, but does selecting 'my access point' allow you to either manually enter settings or select 'Giffgaff'? My SE allows for each application to switch Internet Settings between 'Default' or 'Custom' where I can select the 'Giffgaff GPRS' settings, so sounds like the menu options are different..

I have a SE C510 that is locked to 3UK. I had a look at what the setttings would be. I think should be set to default.

Done it, but to no avail! It seems that the apps or my phone(2 yrs old) are incompatible with GG's data service ![]()
GG wap home page(press and hold zero) makes the phone go all funny as well - flashing screen etc!
Seems I'll just have to use the phones built in browser if I want to access the net!

I'm using an old unlocked Vodafone 3g handset which about 2 years old. Mine works fine. I had loads of problems because the settings couldn't be sent by text. I aquired the O2 settings and I got it to work. You may need to input the setttings manually. Thats what I had to do.

@ phil8715...
There is no 3G network in my area at all, and from what I can gather Nokia the 5310 does not accomodate 3G anyway...
Could this be the issue?

You should be able to access the net using GPRS. The phone manual mentions setting up an access point on page 29:
http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/apac/phones/gu
Select Menu > Settings > Configuration
<snip>
Personal config. sett. — to manually add new personal accounts for various services and to activateor delete them. To add a new personal account, select Add, or Options > Add new. Select the service type, and enter the required parameters. To activate a personal account, scroll to it, and select Options > Activate.
The settings you need (if texting SETTINGS to 2020 didn't give you the right ones) are on this post:

@ dooferlad...
Done all that mate, the problem is with the applications not the GPRS settings. More modern phones don't have the same problem...
Not being able to send SMS to 32665 and perhaps other similar numbers is more of a concern to be honest!

The Facebook mobile application on my Nexus One doesn't give nearly enough notifications fo comments etc. Has anyone tried any other Android Facebook applications that are better please? giffgaff still not compatible with the Facebook text service, so can't use that.
