Hey Chinagirl,

Just one person need to top up  every 3 moths for the free text/calls to occur. However, this might not be the case for video calling as both participant need Internet Data allowance

Video calling shouldn't require data allowance - it is normally charged quite separately from data.

As long as you have topped up £10 within 3 months, you won't be charged for calling or texting another giffgaff number - it doens't matter if they have topped up or not.  Obviously they will only get free calls & texts back to you if they have topped up too though.

Oh, I see

It's just that when I tried video calling with my sister, she wasn't able to because she did not have 3G settings, therefore no 3G. After I gave her the settings, 3G was enabled and it was A OK. Maybe I got confused and tried to fill in the missing gaps

No only one person need to top up to receive the free texts but this is not the case for video calls

Effectively, the service will only ever function on 3G due to the network capacity required to process the video. However, the whole call effectively works in the same way dialup internet did and is effectively a call and makes no use of data.
