Basic Samsung GT E2121 - no internet access

New phone, new gg sim with £5 intro credit and live £10 goodbag

Can make calls but no internet connection:

Have download settings via 2030.

All installed ok & checked

Balance enquiry only shows £5 (not £15 ?)

5 bar - v good reception

Can't access internet, message : error: network not available.

Do not see any gprs or 3g icon come up.

Reset phone and use old o2 pay and go sim, reload settings and it works to internet.

Repeat with gg card and same problem.....ad infinitum....

Any ideas?

Ok  if the O2 SIM works then your phone is good to go for Giffgaff.

Thats a start.

Put the settings into your phone manually .. Then power off and on again.

input ALL of the settings..

If you SIM was activated today it can take upto 24 hours to fully activate .. It's usually much quicker though.

Charles

The £10 paid for the £10 goodybag.

When you top up with credit only either by voucher, credit or debit card, or via the auto topup system, you will be on the standard Pay As You Go tariff as detailed here.

Have a read of this post which explains the difference between top-up and goodybags:

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Learn-giffgaff-Top-Tips/CREDIT-AND-GOODYBAG-CONFUSION/m-p/988713

You cannot automatically renew goodybags but you can auto-topup your credit and queue one more goodybag to start as soon as your old goodybag expires.

Auto-top

  • Auto top-up will automatically top-up your giffgaff account if the balance falls below £3
  • Auto top-up will not automatically buy your next goodybag

Vouchers do not buy goodybags - People buy goodybags!

When you redeem a voucher or top-up via a credit or debit card you place money into your giffgaff account which provides you with airtime credit. If you want a goodybag then once you've redeemed your voucher, or topped-up with your credit or debt card,  you need to buy the goodybag checking the option to pay for it from your airtime credit.

To buy a goodybag from your existing credit select the goodybag you wish to buy and click 'Add to basket' on the Top-up section of the website then tick the box in 'My basket' to pay with existing credit.

For more detail see this guide: http://bit.ly/giffgaffgfc and dial *100*7# to check your minutes.

Your current goodybag will expire between 10pm and midnight.

You can buy a goodybag at any time, up until 7pm on the day an existing goodybag expires when the system locks-out new goodybag purchases until 9am the following day. At busy times the 9am timescale may be extended to 1pm.

If you want to ensure an uninterrupted service from old to new goodybag, you need to queue it before 7pm on the day it is due to expire - best way is to queue it as soon as your current one is active.

All goodybags run for one month from the start date even if you have used all the minutes within the goodybag as you will still have inclusive texts and/or Internet to use until the expiry date.

You cannot cancel a goodybag once active however if you want to cancel a queued goodybag you may contact an Agent at http://bit.ly/giffgaffagent Agents can take up to 48 hours to reply, see your replies here http://j.mp/giffgaffreplies

First thing to try is:
Text "settings to "2020"
or "mms" to "1010"

The above is not always compatible with smartphones, such as the iPhone so try entering manual settings below.

Re: Basic Samsung GT E2121 - no internet access

The credit showing only £5 is correct ... You had £15

Bought a £10 goodybag

Credit lowers to £5.

All is OK there.

Charles

o2 is seperate network from giffgaff even though they are both owned by spanish giant telefonica. You need to get giffgaff settings by texting setting to 2020. And your credit says 5 pounds because you used 10 pounds to buy a goodybag. Goodybags are monthly bundles that you pay for from your credit or buy the bundle directly with a card.

Re: Basic Samsung GT E2121 - no internet access

Sounds like you need to try manually setting up (or at least recheck) the connection settings on your phone. The generic settings (i.e. at least some of these elements are applicable to all mobile devices) are as follows:

INTERNET

Connection Name: giffgaff
Access Point Name: giffgaff.com
Server Address: 193.113.200.195
Port: 8080
Login Username: giffgaff
Login Password: password
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
MMS Server: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002

MMS

Connection Name: giffgaff
Access Point Name: giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN type: mms

It's usually a good idea to reboot your handset after entering or amending any of these settings.
