Cannot connect to the Internet - new phone & sim card

Hi

 

I am a new member to Gifgaf and have a question. I recently purchased a second hand iphone4 which was operating on the O2 network and now I have inserted my gifgaf sim card. I have been able to dowload everything from my ipod and itunes library and the internet works when I am connected to a wifi network where I have input the password.

 

However the problem I have is that when the 3G is turned on and I am in the office I get an error message when I try to connect to the internet.  'Could not activate cellular data network.   You are not subscribed to a cellular data service'

 

Please can someone help with this issue? is it becuase the phone is locked to O2 ?

Have you set up your iPhone for data? You have to set these up manually.

For iOS 5 Goto Settings> General> Network> Mobile Data Network
For iOS 6 Goto Settings> General> Mobile Data> Mobile Data Network (scroll to bottom to see)
Now enter these settings
APN: giffgaff.com
USERNAME: giffgaff
PASSWORD: password

MMS
APN: giffgaff.com
USERNAME: giffgaff
PASSWORD: password

MMSC: http://mmsc-ac.mms.o2.co.uk:10021/mmsc
MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195:8080
MMS Max Message Size: 2097152
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

DON'T PRESS RESET just go back up the menu
Then pop it into airplane mode then off again and all should now be working.

In a nutshell:

Settings > General > Profile - delete any and all profiles which may be here

Settings > General > Network > mobile data network (or "celluar data settings")

Under APN put:
APN: giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password (this is the word "password")

leave visual voicemail empty (gg don't do it)

under MMS put:
APN: giffgaff.com
Username: giffgaff
Password: password (this is the word "password")
MMSC: http://mmsc-ac.mms.o2.co.uk:10021/mmsc
MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195:8080
Max MSG size:2097152

Settings > General > Network/Mobile Data > Enable 3G <ON>
Settings > General > Network/Mobile Data > Cellular Data <ON>
Settings > Messages> MMS Messaging <ON>

You may also need to reboot your phone to implement these settings.
