The other day i HAD to call an 0844 number
I must have been on the phone for just over 3 - 5 minutes
I got cut off
Afterwards, I found out that the £1 credit I had was all taken
I'm pretty sure I wasnt on the phone for 10 minutes - I think anyway
How much does it cost to call 0844 numbers?
AND is there ANY way around it? Maybe call a different local number and pay less by having your call transferred?
I don't actually have any big need to call regularly - and would only need very little - but good to know regardless

ouch... that's quite a lot!
i should have called someone who could do a conference call and get them to call the 0844 number!
else... i'm sure phone cards with 0800 number access would cost much less
i won't need to bother anyway - i don't really have a need or want to call numbers like that on my mobile

The reason why calls to 084 and 087 numbers cost more than calls to standard 01, 02 and 03 numbers is that part of the call cost is paid onwards to whoever you are calling. They use this to cover the running costs of the line with any remainder paid out as revenue share.
The call costs will be changing on 26 June 2015. Ofcom requires greater transparency both of the onwards payment and of the amount retained by the caller's provider. The new system is known as the "unbundled tariff". It is possible that 0845 call prices will fall slightly and 0871, 0872 and 0873 call costs will rise.
A major change will shortly affect all 084, 087, 09 and 118 calls: The unbundled tariff is coming.
