Hi all,

People are probably aware that giffgaff is changing the packaging that sims are sent out in, in order to save costs. Fair enough.

It was announced on the Service Updates notice board

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Service-Updates-Notice-board/New-packaging-alert/m-p/1850535

that this would include changing to 2nd class postage for sims. Again, fair enough.

However, when asked, giffgaff (eventually) said that this would also include replacement sims

Thanks for your comments, replacement sims will also be sent out on 2nd class postage.

Thank you

This is where I have a problem. I think replacement sims should continue to be sent out 1st class. If you lose your phone, it is stolen or you have a technical problem with the sim, you need that replacement sim as soon as possible

PS

A quick search also throws up this idea, of being able to request an express delivery option on replacement sims:

But even though Robbie said it was under consideration in January 2011, nothing further has happened with this idea!

Edit:

People may also be interested in this idea, which wants giffgaff to delay the changed until after Xmas:

Hi guys - this has now been implemented with out new packaging: From Naiha's blog: "Another bit of good news for you all is that the Lost and Stolen SIM packs (the Oops pack) will be delivered by 1st class post, so you won't have to wait too long :smileyhappy:"

I would have thought replacemrnt sims are urgent so should be indeed sent out 1 st class.  I've had 2nd class nearly 5 days late and even first class late before.

Given that (from reading threads here) there now seems to be this system of having to ask someone to unblock the SIM, rather than just activate it and it works, then adding 2 or 3 days postage as well might make the inactive period into 5 or 6 days for most people

Let people choose - as a standard, 2nd class. If they need it faster they can after paying a small charge with their debit or credit card. Or the charge can be added when they top-up or buy a goody bag next time.

@retriva

we're waiting for hazel to get back

Alternatively, give members the option to order a 'blank' SIM for a small fee (say £3), so in the even they lose their SIM, they can get activated within a couple of hours. This is likely to cost GG money, hence my suggestion of a premium £3 (or even £5) just to give members that convinience!

Glad you're happy - it's a brilliant idea :smileyhappy:

Blimey, if reversing a poor decision by giffgaff is a "brilliant idea", aren't you going to run out of superlatives for an idea that makes a net step forward?!:smileyhappy:
