No giffgaff ads for giffgaff customers

I searched and found no duplicates

Hi giffgaffers,

Do you see loads of giffgaff ads hanging around when you're browsing the web? I see many giffgaff ads on pages giffgaff related (not refferal banners but ads!) Couldn't giffgaff save a lot of money by keeping the ads for people who are not on giffgaff? Ad spaces cost money - it is a waste of money to advertise to people who are already customers! I hope the marketing staff will save a bit of dosh by not showing ads to members - and hopefully with the money saved they can return it to their members!

Hi Tom :smileyhappy: Thanks for contributing to the Ideas Board, as Luke has said; "The adverts outside of the giffgaff website have nothing to do with giffgaff itself. Its the search engines. When you visit a website "example giffgaff" it places a cookie on your computer. When you then visit another website, that has adverts on them, the search engine reads your cookies, and will provide you with adverts that appear relevent to what you have browsed too previously." - We could never filter our adverts between giffgaff members and non giffgaff members. It would be technically impossible, but thanks again and I look forward to your future contributions!

ad clicks and conversions cost money, i doubt they are buying spots.

I've noticed this too on Facebook. Everyone who likes the giffgaff Facebook page has adverts to "order a giffgaff sim today"...but 99% of the people who liked the page obviously already have a sim... Don't think it's been thought through properly.

Only a waste of money if you click the adverts :smileytongue:.

The ads are targeted based on websites you have shown an interest in. I did not see any giffgaff ads before I joined, but now I see them everywhere, just because I visit this site so often.

Normally the payment model is a small fee for x thousand banners displayed, a little more for each banner clicked and then quite a bit of cash for every order or sale. Normally there is also a period where a sale or order made by someone who has "seen" a banner (maybe a week or so) will be classified as a view sale and payment is made for the as well. I this can be done, maybe via cookies, then it is a worth while idea, especially as some people will be classed a view orders if they order a sim fi someone.
