Allow original poster to remove idea when it is determined to be a duplicate. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

Status: Idea Vault

Sorry but this is a variant on this idea

This is not suitable for giffgaff as we'd like to keep track of all ideas and comments. If we give people the ability to delete their own topics and ideas, it would mean the comments on these disappear as well. Hence you give people the ability to moderate what others are saying. You can edit your own posts however, which should sort out most of your issues.

I was campainging for the 'idea graveyard' recently so that people could see frequent duplicates & the kudos would get moved to the original idea.....

Ideas are usually marked as duplicates fairly quickly. So a poster could remove their idea from public view before a trail of comments is created.

only if the duplicators happen to be online... they are just members like you & me... they don't do fixed hours.

this conversation is still going despite the duplication..... trails of comments pop up real quickly

I really think some people just go through the ideas section and mark them Duplicates because there's a slightly related idea, or pick at the idea by highlighting very minor problems that could be worked around with a bit of negotiation. Might just be ranting because I have felt like a victim of this too, so I'll stop commenting now to keep out of trouble!

Mgb2 -I didn't realise that. When i edit the reply what happens to the original?
by mgb2 ‎14-04-2012 23:37 - edited ‎14-04-2012 23:42

I think the bigger picture is too many people post 'ideas' that are half-thought out and don't really offer any solution... lots of them are far more suitable for the 'contribute' section where they can be discussed & shaped into something workable...

EDIT, yeah, they are volunteers & there's only about 6 of them.

there is also a duplicate checker that bertiebat deals with...

Perhaps a limit on Idea posts per member in this section. This would mean users would consider their ideas carefully before posting.
by mgb2 on ‎14-04-2012 23:42

funnily enough even a limit has been proposed... 'not suitable' i think.... i don't remember what it was called tho...

cvertainly the search facility has it's quirks, sometimes you need to think a bit outside the box for alternative phrases that could be similar

by ruballard on ‎14-04-2012 23:43
It is always difficult to have an original idea.
by mgb2 on ‎14-04-2012 23:45

with edits, the original gets hidden... the staff can still see all changes however. so, if I had been swearing at you earlier and i'd then changed it, they would have the necessary record.
