eVouchers roll out plan

[ Edited ]

Hi all,

As some of you might know, we've been hard at work on implementing the eVoucher system on giffgaff and I can now tell you we've had some success :smileyhappy:

As of today we've implemented the eVouchers system on the giffgaff website in a beta version and you can use it to top up your giffgaff account or to activate your giffgaff sim. You can also help us test the system, and if you're interested in that see the bottom of this thread.  For more detail on how vouchers work read on...

First off, to top-up your account you can go to 'My giffgaff' and top-up your account by choosing the voucher code option or you can call 43430 and follow the instructions there.

Now this whole eVoucher idea is not as simple as it sounds unfortunately, so I'll explain a bit on how it's going to work. There are around 6 different 'solution providers', as they're called, in the UK who all have a different share of the eVoucher market. For a company to be fully spread throughout the UK you have to get a contract with all of them. There are well over 100.000 shops all over the UK who all use these different solution providers, but please bear in mind these people all work on their own schedule and are completely separate from mobile network providers like giffgaff.

Because there are so many different solution providers, each with their own software and so many different shops, each voucher will look slightly different.

So it might be fun to post up a picture here of all the different vouchers you come across :smileyhappy:

So when will the different shops roll out the giffgaff vouchers?

The first one to provide full giffgaff eVouchers will be payzone. So you should be able to buy a voucher from any shop which displays this logo:

payzone will launch giffgaff eVouchers on the 12th of May. Now please bear in mind that they have to roll out the giffgaff vouchers across all their shops,  train their staff on what and who giffgaff is, update their systems, etc. So it might take a few weeks before all the shops they service are updated.

To find the nearest payzone store please follow the following link.

The second solution provider will launch on the 17th of May and will be epay. Any shop which displays their logo should sell giffgaff vouchers:

So as of the 17th of May epay will roll out giffgaff vouchers across all the shops they provide their service with. Again, it might take a few weeks for literally all of the shops to be fully updated due to them having to train their staff and updating all of the systems.

To find your nearest epay store please follow the following link.

And the last one to be fully giffgaffed will be PayPoint. By the end of June any shop which displays the PayPoint logo should sell giffgaff vouchers.

Again, please be aware that paypoint will have to train their staff and update their systems in each shop they service so it might be a few weeks before they are all fully giffgaffed.

To find your nearest PayPoint store please follow the following link.

Once all of these three have been fully giffgaffed, we can then display the green eVoucher logo, which looks like this:

Which means that any shop which displays that logo will sell our vouchers.

What to do if you fancy helping test our top-up system:

Now if you fancy helping us test our systems there is something else you can do as of today. You can go into any shop, buy an 02 voucher and top up your giffgaff sim. It's a bit of a backdoor, but as we run on the 02 network this is technically possible :smileywink:

So don't worry about losing your money as we've tested this out ourselves, but please be aware that the 02 phone number which is printed on the voucher will of course not work. So either go online to giffgaff.com to redeem your voucher or call our top-up number: 43430 Follow the instructions and away you go :smileyhappy:

Cheers,

Vincent

Re: eVouchers roll out plan

Great!

Thanks Vincent :smileyhappy:
Please make sure boots start to do giffgaff top ups too so I can get my boots points :smileywink:
But its great to be able to top up using an o2 voucher, is this going to be available forever or just while the system is getting rolled out?

Re: eVouchers roll out plan

I like to get my top up a Tesco as its convenient and the Clubcard points are useful too. Presumably, I can buy O2 vouchers at the moment and use them to top up. Any idea how long that facility is likely to last? Which of the systems that you quote does Tesco currently use (and by implication when will they roll out Giffgaff)? Is it Paypoint?

If you find the information above useful, please click the star to the left to give me kudos

It's also a good backup in case of website topup bugs :smileywink:

Tesco use epay - but with a special integration to their till systems...so when epay roll out in May the Tesco till systems won't automatically update.....

We're not planning to offer e top-up cards - setting up and running the system to issue cards is quiet expensive - and pretty much anywhere use can use an e top-up card you can buy a voucher. We also thought that vouchers would be more flexible as they can be used to top-up any giffgaff SIM - with an e top-up card you can only top-up the SIM who's mobile number you have associated with it.

You'll need to use the voucher within 12 months of purchasing it - They'll be an expiry date printed on it as a reminder.
