I am an existing member, I personally found out about payback by accident - I was on the Community looking for help and saw a daily contest for an entire month, and got involved through that.
I have recruited 2 work colleagues this year, and both have been 'slow' to get involved in the Community. However, I have got them involved by basically, sitting down with them at lunch break, and giving them a 1-2-1 'teach in' of how to use the Community, the different areas, how to post, explaining kudos and how to give kudos, etc...
- What do you think is worth teaching new members of the community to get them more involved?
In my experience, I had to physically show new members how to use the Community before they realised how easy it was. So my conclusion, is members who recruit friends should be encouraged to give recruitees a short 10-30 minute 'teach in'. Obviously some people won't do this due to time constraints or geographical distances, but perhaps a giffgaff video log showing new recruits how the Community works and how to get started making posts, introducing yourself on the Community, giving and receiving kudos, etc.. could be helpful. It's a low cost solution, and you can easily monitor its effectiveness by counting video views.
- What activities would you like to see rewarded on the community?
I don't like the suggestion of rewarding giffgaffers for 'completing your profile'. I only say this because like many people I am concerned about data protection and data privacy, and limiting how many people know too much information about myself! However, there are profile aspects which are 'lower risk' such as adding your favourite musical tastes, favourite movies, favourite tv shows, favourite national cuisines, hobbies, etc...
It's not public knowledge how payback is awarded so it's hard to say what should and shouldn't be included in giffgaff's analytics. But I think 'activity in terms of number of posts' and 'quality of posts in terms of kudos received' are my most important factors.
- What behaviours would you like to see rewarded?
My answer is as above in the previous answer 2nd paragraph. "I think 'activity in terms of number of posts' and 'quality of posts in terms of kudos received' are my most important factors. "
- What new features would you like to see on the community?
In line with what I said above, I don't like the idea of 'detailed profiles' for data protection and data privacy concerns. I like being an active member of the Community but I don't want other giffgaffers for example PM'ing me on my birthday! However, profiiles could in theory by enlarged or enhanced, by musical tastes or movie tastes, favourite tv shows, preferred foods and national cuisines, etc, which are pretty harmless areas to share with the Community!
I'm interested in the idea of a Points system, but I realise that if you share with the Community how to gain points, then lots of people will try to 'game the system'! I think you need to be really careful how your design and implement this points system, and how much information is shared with the Community about how it works! There may be a need for 'policing' the points system!
