since last night i've had limited service. which means i can't do anything with my phone. it's been going on for around 15 hours now, not impressed. how do i solve it?

have you checked to make sure that that there are no O2 outages in your area:

There's probably nothing you can do yourself. If you have another phone unlocked/locked to O2 then try putting your SIM in it and see if that one works fine. If it doesn't then as others have said, there is probably an outage in your area. If the other phone works fine, you will need to get your phone looked at.
the coverage is fine it says. plus i live with my mum who has o2 and she would have said something.
i have around £9 credit so it's not that. but even if i didn't have credit, it shouldn't say this. the words "limited service" are in the middle of my screen.
well my mum is at work so i can't do that right now.
i would hope it's not the sim, i've only had it since may when i joined.
well what do i do whilst i'm waiting for the sim to arrive? it's not very good is it giffgaff.
my phone is now essentially a brick.
Your situation isn't ideal, but it doesn't sound like it is anything that giffgaff has done.
my little brother has giffgaff as well, so i'll try with his when he gets home.
there's no tesco within walking distance of me (i don't drive) so can't do that.
just a thought, can you go into your phone's settings and tell it to use 2G or 3G only networks? and see if that helps improve your signal (also i wouldnt say the o2 status checker is completely accurate)
