A little about the KB Group
The KB group has 35 members and is made up of gg staff (from various areas), KB Publishers & Editors as well as other interested members. It is a place where everyone is equal and every idea is investigated. We discuss & implement changes to the KB with a sound view of making it as accessible as possible to get the correct information with the least amount of effort. It is a closed group but were always interested to hear from members who have something to add. If you are interested in joining to discuss the future of the KB please go to the KB Discussion Group page and request to join the group.
One point to highlight is the excellent teamwork, dedication & time invested by all of the group (members & gg staff). Many have been on various different groups / forums but the co-operation between the staff & members has been amazing which has allowed us to progress so quickly. This update may not seem like a lot, but the background work that has been input by all has been immense.
So you all ask…….”What have you been doing?”
Well firstly we discussed what we felt was wrong / right about the KB, which then developed into what we could do better to make things easier for the members. There are a few ideas which need further investigation but generally we knew that change needed to happen.
We then looked at the current articles and decided that as much as we all tried to keep it as standardised as possible, over time it just wasn't working. We decided that we needed to get right back to the main roots of the article before we thought about updating the information provided to members. We then started a process of designing a new template from the ground up. This was no easy task.
After several months of hard work by the group testing out new ideas (HTML / CSS / Widgets / iFrames…. you name it we have tried it) whilst working out what our limitations were we can now proudly say we have an excellent finished product.
A possible new widget was developed by the gg team in co-operation with the group and is currently being tested on the top 10 most viewed articles within the KB (shown below)
Do we need to review this article? Give us feedback
Another of our many running projects was the NEW feedback form for the KB, the older thread was excellent but had become a little overrun with help requests and editors were finding it a little hard to keep track of feedback / edits requested. So thanks to an idea by a member of the group we now have this excellent feedback form which sends your helpful feedback directly to a page within the KB group where we review and edit the KB as appropriate.
Your feedback is very important. Even a small spelling mistake is worth reporting to us, our aim is to improve…..improve ….improve & make the KB as good as it can be. If you spot anything that looks / feels wrong, please let us know.
Another of our many changes is the phone settings pages. We felt that we could offer an article that not only gives you instructions on how to add your APN settings but could offer a little more (all in one place). So we have added the following:
How to setup & switch on roaming
How to setup & tether with your handset
How to switch network modes (from 4G-3G-2G)
to these articles: Acer (more coming soon)
The group is also actively providing information on a project that giffgaff are spearheading to improve the search facility. This will assist members searching via their own Internet browsers to be able to find what they are looking for fast and easy from their preferred search engine whilst using their preferred device.
Starting from this week we will publish on this thread the actions taken by the group based on your feedback so that your kept informed of the progress were making. Here is the first of many:
