Hey folks - hope you're all wrapped up warm as we draw into the winter months. I've got a little announcement for you about something new for the community that'll start appearing next to your community posts this week.
The headline is: you'll now be able to earn stickers that'll showcase what you're most proud of doing on the community next to every post - what you've done to make giffgaff truly run by you. It looks something like this:
But before we get into the detail - a bit of background. Late last year, we updated our community to become more mobile-friendly and streamline it a lot. With that, though, we also lost some fidelity of detail - vital statistics that people used and got value from on the community were lost. When asking for help, for example, people used to be able to see context for how many Best Answers people have earned, and for newbies it really helped increase the level of trust they had in the community.
This feature is aimed at bringing back a lot of that detail, so that when you look at someone's post that you don't know, you can get a sense of their role in the giffgaff community and see what they've done that they're most proud of, and see opportunities for you to get involved that you might not have seen before. Not only that, but we've built a platform that allows for expansion of that detail so that we're not just restricted to showcasing the statistics we were before.
It's been in testing with a few members over the last couple of weeks, and after some amazing bugs found and feedback given, it looks like we're just about ready to launch, so here's a heads up - before the end of the week, you'll see people's posts appearing like this:
You'll be able to earn stickers for a variety of things, and your most prestigious will be displayed next to every post you make automatically. We're launching with a basic complement of stickers with various different bits of iconography that seemed like the obvious ones to start with. Here's the first-round stickers that people will be able to earn:
The vast majority of people will, at the moment, only have two displayed - how many years they've been here and how many Best Answers they have, but there'll be a few people around who'll be able to proudly say that they've been here since the start, have won an award, or have had an idea implemented. We know, though, that this isn't the be all and end all of being a giffgaffer - as things go forward we want to hear from you about what stickers you want and what you want to show people that you've done, as well as what you want to know about other people. We could have stickers for being new, for being a blogger, for being a Super Recruiter, anything thatpeople do that has a positive impact on other giffgaffers. We want your sticker collection to grow and grow and for everyone to be able to display the top three that means something to them.
Keep an eye out for this, launching in the next couple of days (edit: today, Thursday November 9th!) . Once you can see them, you'll be able to change what displays on your profile page - just click your stickers or your avatar to get there. And, most importantly - let us know what you think!
How can I customise my stickers?
It's set up so that for most people, the default will be the ones they'll want - but if they want something different, head to your profile page and uncheck the ones you don't want and check the ones you do.
But I want to turn them off completely...
If you don't want to display any, you can just uncheck them all from your profile, because we know it won't be for everyone, and soon we'll have a toggle to turn them off completely if you really want. In the mean time, we'd love to hear your feedback about what you're not keen on - maybe there's a version we can make that would work for you, and we're hoping it'll grow on you.
Does this link in to the profile progression missions in My giffgaff?
Not quite yet, although there are similar ideas behind them. We're hoping to merge the two in future, so that it's unified across the whole site, and we think Helpers could really benefit from knowing how far through the missions people have got when troubleshooting.
Why don't my stickers show up in Labs, or on the blog?
We're gonna get them there soon, don't worry - this is just the first stage of release. We want to make sure you have an opportunity to have your stickers visible wherever you post with your giffgaff account.
I want a sticker for something else please!
Awesome! Keep an eye out in Contribute for a thread to talk about new stickers and what should be next. We want to launch a second round of stickers very soon and keep going until everyone's got something that speaks to them to show. Have a think about what you think people should aspire to and what you want to show off and let's decide what's next 🙂
