I made this bag with left over fabric. It was a wee bit fiddly in places but i didn't use a sewing machine. If you need a bag to match an outfit this is definately a cheap way to go
You will need some fabric scraps ... double the size you want the bag to be and also lining fabric the same size. Matching thread, a needle and pins
Bag clasps and the chain are available cheaply online or in most sewing / haberdashery shops.
With the fabric the wrong way out and the lining the right way out sew the edges along 3 sides (I actually used a folded piece so there was no sewing at the base) Leave the top part of the sides unsewn with the correct length so that it can be attached to the clasp.
Turn the fabric the right way out and place the lining inside ... the sewn seams should be between the fabric so that they do not show on the finished bag
Tuck the 'raw' fabric edges in and sew the 2 layers of fabric together
push these sewn edges into the bag clasp and sew into place through the holes in the clasp (in the second photo you can see that I have used navy thread for this.. silver would show less! )
If you want a shoulder bag rather than a clutch one attach the chain to the fittings on the bag clasp
A bag suitable for any night out!
