RBY challenges for Spring/Summer
Our @aggy_agate wants to see if any of you'd be interested in running some RBY Spring/Summer challenges this year? Last year they did really well and everyone seemed to be enjoying the activities. It went a bit quiet over the winter but I think it would be nice to pick it up again if everyone's up for it.
- Do you think it's better to do them twice a month or adjust depending on the activity?
- Do you have any ideas on what could we do? Online or outdoor?
Please share your ideas and volunteer to run activities if interested. Ideally for me to be able to manage around and get in touch with you submit the following: Is this something that interests you? Then head over and see what it all about, click here.
We're building a new app - We Need You!
Alex @alex_app - Product Owner for mobile apps at giffgaff has some exciting news to share. Here at giffgaff we’ve got some ambitious plans for our mobile apps and much as we love the current my giffgaff app, the technology it’s built on is showing its age and it’s much harder to work with than we’d like. That means it takes us way longer to make changes to it, and bring out new features than you lovely lot deserve.
So, we’ve taken the decision to build a brand new shiny version of the my giffgaff app. We’re doing it using bang up-to-date technology that means we can keep bringing you the latest and greatest features, quickly and easily as soon as you ask for them (OK maybe not that quick, but we’re aiming high). This sounds a really cool thing for the members to get involved with, so if it floats your boat or you just want to see whats happening, you can find all the new info right here.

Best answers and agents/educators by @redisblue. Would this idea help our helpers clarify any changes?
Unsolved button by @sophie26413. I think this an amazing idea and will really help the members.
Glad you made it. You can now search for an idea you like by using the search bar located here. If you do not find the idea you are looking for, you can always post your idea in the contribute section, this would firstly allow you to get feedback on the idea and secondly there might be an idea that has been described very differently to what you were thinking. If all else fails, you have a chance to develop your idea and post your idea in the Lab. Good luck fellow inventors!
If you want to contribute to the changes (that will be listed under changes/idea updates section). Please free to join here, you just have to hit the join button.

Facebook to exclude billions from European privacy laws
Facebook has changed its terms of service, meaning 1.5 billion members will not be protected under tough new privacy protections coming to Europe. The move comes as the firm faces a series of questions from lawmakers and regulators around the world over its handling of personal data. The change revolves around which users will be regulated via its European headquarters in Ireland. Facebook said it planned clearer privacy rules worldwide.
The move, reported by Reuters, will see Facebook users outside the EU governed by Facebook Inc in the US rather than Facebook Ireland. It is widely seen as a way of the social network avoiding having to apply the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to countries outside the EU.
The change will affect more than 70% of its more than two billion members. As of December, Facebook had 239 million users in the US and Canada and 370 million in Europe. It also had 1.5 billion members in Africa, Asia, Australia and Latin America, and they are the ones affected by the change.
Users in the US and Canada have never been subject to European rules. "The GDPR and EU consumer law set out specific rules for terms and data policies which we have incorporated for EU users. We have been clear that we are offering everyone who uses Facebook the same privacy protections, controls and settings, no matter where they live," said Stephen Deadman, deputy chief global privacy officer at Facebook.
In 2008, Facebook set up its international headquarters in Ireland to take advantage of the country's low corporate tax rates but it also meant all users outside the US and Canada were protected by European regulations. The change will mean users outside Europe will no longer be able to file complaints with the Irish data protection commissioner or in the Irish courts.
GDPR, due to come into force next month, offers EU consumers far greater control over their data. It also promises to fine firms found to have breached data rules up to 4% of their annual global revenue. Facebook has been under extremely close scrutiny following revelations that up to 87 million users may have had their data harvested by political marketing firm Cambridge Analytica without their consent.

I have lots of fond memories of Leeds, I haven't been there in a very long time though. One of my favourite places was Roundhay Park. Click here to see the original post. Once again, a big thank you to all our giffgaff snappers for these lovely images, please keep them coming.

Google Chat - yet another messaging app
Note on last week’s story: In response to the exposed security flaws in Android’s update system (See last week’s article), Google said it will be rolling out updates on a more frequent basis and will be fixing it’s mistakes.
Another story from the Android camp this week! Google has announced it will bring it's SMS service back from the dead and onto the screens of Android users worldwide.
The service, known simply as ‘Chat’ promises to be a viable modern competitor to services such as Facebook’s WhatsApp and Messenger service.
We have been guaranteed features such as group chats, calls and direct phone SMS receiving, which means you can use the app as your primary messaging service instead of your manufacturer standard app, such as Apple’s iMessage. It is expected that the app will roll out worldwide later this year. Currently, it is unclear whether the app will be directly maintained by Google, as discussions are ongoing, but it is likely to be an outsourced service.
