Payback is upon us again, now that the sun is setting earlier and the cardigans are out in force. Every six months, members collectively choose two charities, who each receive a donation made up of every bit of Payback from members we chose to give to charity.
In 2017, we gave over £60,000 to each charity on average, and If I know the giffgaff community, you're not planning on slowing down any time soon. For some smaller charities, that can be a more significant amount than for others, so please consider this when nominating your charity. You can use this thread to nominate any charity that exists, so please take the time to consider the effect a donation like this might have, and have a look through other members' posts to see charities that might be new to you.
Nominations are open until at least noon on Wednesday, November 14th 23:59 on Friday, November 16th, so you've got plenty of time to weigh your decision and nominate a charity. (We've extended this so that everyone who receivesthe points statement will have time to nominate a charity after receiving it).
You've asked us to restrict donations to charities if they've received funds from giffgaffers too recently, so please avoid any charity that we've given to in the last two years - there's a list below to help with that. Please check it, as we any nominations for these charities are invalid.
The following charities are not eligible for donations in this Payback period.
- Macmillan Cancer Support (received donations June 2018)
- Children with Cancer UK (received donations June 2018)
- British Heart Foundation (received donations December 2017)
- Save the Children (received donations December 2017)
- Cancer Research UK (received donations June 2017)
- Bluebell Children's Hospice (received donations June 2017)
- Crisis (received donations December 2016)
- Great Ormond Street Hospital (received donations December 2016)
Have a think about a cause close to your heart, find a charity where the donation will make the most good, and let us know who it is and why they're important to you. Just hit this button and say your piece.

We're going to tally up all the charities that are nominated by members posts after nominations closes. You can only nominate one charity, so please consider carefully before posting.
We will not consider Kudos as an additional nomination, except in the rare event we need to break a tie between two charities. If you want to nominate a specific charity, make sure you post, even if someone else has already posted it.
We welcome nominations of small and large charities, on a scale from very local to worldwide. If you're nominating a smaller charity, please consider posting why it's an important cause and other members should also support it - many members will nominate charities that are familiar to them, so the more visible a smaller charity is, the better it is likely to perform.
We do considerable auditing of this thread to act against illegitimate nominations - please don't try to manipulate the system to boost a specific charity. We'll spot it, and your attempts will be for nothing. Instead, please use the time to advocate for your charity and let members choose for themselves.
If you work for a charity and would like to post a nomination, please let us know, or we might consider your nomination illegitimate. The easiest way is to send @t_will a private message by clicking here.
So newer charities, smaller charities and non-traditional charities can still get a look-in, charities that have previously received money from members have special rules. If a charity received a donation within the last four Payback periods (two years), they will be excluded from the vote entirely. Out of the five charities in the vote, we reserve four spots for charities that have never received Payback donations.
The history of charities who have previously received Payback is right here:
