Yes, that's certainly one way of looking at it.
The other way, which I subscribe to, is that I don't really care. I choose what information I share, and what I don't share, and am grateful of the conveniences offered as a result.
I'll be dead in 50 years anyway, so why spend my time worrying about whether Google knows what brands I like, and where I shop and so on .. ?
