Today is a really big day in the mobile industry and we’re excited to share why. As of today, Ofcom have introduced a new regulation designed to make it easier for people to keep their mobile number when switching mobile networks.
“What has changed exactly?” I hear you ask… Well, before today if someone wanted to leave their current UK mobile network and take their number with them, they’d typically have to call up their current network to request a PAC code. Many people would, in the process of calling up their current network, get pressured into staying.
Now, everyone can simply text the word ‘PAC’ to 65075 and get their PAC code within 60 seconds before handing it to their new provider to begin the switching process and keep their mobile number.
If people don’t want to bring their number with them they can request a STAC code instead by texting the word ‘STAC’ to 75075. This will allow them to join a new network and terminate their old service seamlessly without the overlap of services with different mobile networks.
It really empowers people to follow through on their choice to leave their current network and as you know, giffgaff is all about choice.
As of today, our members can now request their PAC and STAC codes by text as well as through their dashboard and by calling 43431. We’ve put together a few guides that help our members understand better how the new regulation applies when you join or leave giffgaff.
