If you have a live bag but are charged from your balance for a call or text then giffgaff can tell you this immediately thus making it very transparent.
However most people don’t like this feature - ie Balance Notifications - and have it turned OFF whereas if they had it enabled they would know exactly which call / text had incurred the charge and when it had happned thus making it easier to query the charge with an Agent if it was felt to be incorrect.
But most people only find out that they have “lost” credit after the event and can’t pinpoint when and where it went.
Although ironically it is the member’s decision not to use this feature that is the reason they don’t have the information rather than it being giffgaff not supplying it.
Of course it doesn’t tell you if your balance drops due to data use.
And although it might be useful to have that option available as well I would imagine it is harder to implement.
Because of course at present Balance Notifications appear when you have finished making a call or sent a text - ie things that are carried out as a discrete action - while as using data takes place on a continuum it would be difficult to know when to issue the notification,
So maybe rather than itemised bills - which won’t tell you where / how data
has been used - giffgaff could work on a system that would be able to alert you that your balance is dropping due to data use?
