Something like TWENTY YEARS AGO I had a Nokia phone the size of a brick with Orange. At the time they offered something called 'Line 2' which allowed a phone with a single SIM to support TWO lines, e.g. one for home and one for work. I received a monthly bill with itemised calls broken down between both lines so I could charge my business line to the company. Everything was fine, then... Orange dumped the technology and instead insisted customers bought TWO handsets with TWO monthly rentals etc.
The cynic in me said this was purely a commercial move to maximise the amount UK operators could squeeze out of customers, and two lines on a single SIM became the stuff of myth and legend in the UK until now?
I left Orange (before they disappeared) but have had to put up with two separate handsets for personal and work life ever since and it has been a complete PITA. Any chance to return to having a single handset supporting TWO telephone numbers would be an absolute godsend, let alone the environmental benefits of not having multiple handsets! So dear giffgaff (of whom I have been a long suffering member since their inception) please, please, please support eSIM as soon as is humanly possible!
