I just got an email from Divorce Online:
Your decree absolute has been granted and you are now divorced.
My daughter's response was sadness. But, for me, the sadness happened years ago. Now I can close that chapter and move on. Also, we're good friends now and we can enjoy separate lives.
Actually, it would have been sooner because I thought I had to pay £550 court fees. But that's only if your income is high enough. If not, it's very easy to apply online for some or all of the fees to be waived. As it goes on your recent income, they simply look at your National Insurance records.
So for an amicable divorce, it's easy for the spouse with lowest income to file for 5 years separation. Then there's no need to pay solicitors or other 'advisers'.
Obviously many cases are more complex. But for simple folk likes us, it's surprisingly easy to get a hassle free divorce online.
