Hi everyone, I thought I'd share a trick I found (or at least it's basis was found when browsing hotukdeals.com) that bypasses Add-on items on Amazon (the items that you need to have £20 worth of qualifying items in your basket [Prime or not]). It takes a bit of setting up via the Alexa App though once you're set up, it's easy to order add-on items.
Note that if you don't have an Alexa device (Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot etc) then the Alexa App should work by simply pressing the Alexa icon which will let Alexa hear what you're saying.
Note that if you're using the Alexa App, ensure the app is up to date (update via the Google Play Store). To get Alexa to hear you, ensure you have the access to microphone enabled on your phone's settings for the app (you can enable and disable access depending on when you want to order if you need to).
Initial step (whether you need to do it or not depends on if you've set it up previously)
Ensure voice purchasing is enabled on your Amazon account. To enable it, download, open and sign-in to the Alexa App, tap the 3 lines in the top left, tap Settings, tap Account Settings, Tap Voice Purchasing then tap the switch so the option turns blue. From here, ensure the debit card you want to use it chosen on 1 Click Settings. From here, it’s best to set a voice code given the option to stop anyone buying items from your Alexa device freely).
Note that once you’ve enabled voice purchasing (and 1 Click Settings to the card you want to be charged), you don’t have to do it again.
After you've checked the above
- On the Amazon Shopping app or any other device that you can access amazon.co.uk on (on your laptop on the Amazon website, for example), add the Add-On item you want to your basket. Ensure this is the only item in your basket. Note that you may need to sign-in to add the item to your basket
- Say to your Alexa device (or phone via the Alexa App) ‘Place my order’ (if you don’t have an Alexa device, open the Alexa App, tap the blue Alexa icon at the bottom-middle part of the screen then say ‘Place my order’). When it asks if you want to buy now, just say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
Note that me nor giffgaff will be held responsible for any repercussions as a result of using the above method.
