I was kid in 70's, just about remember power cuts and we just had candles to hand. I think you do need stuff available gas and leccy powered as alternative for heating/ cooking.
Think just had early nite when light went off..
I wasn't aware of wait to bury dead, wonder where they stored all those bodies... 3 months sounds like stretching it a bit.. will ask hubs, he remembers more of it. He has mentioned pubs by candlelight - beer was on hand pump so still worked but leccy ones wouldn't now!
I don't remember parents being put out or worried by things. Just went with the flow.. we never had much so didn't expect much. always keep some tins in so don't starve.. didn't have a freezer so food didn't particularly spoil, it was so cold we just put food in larder with mesh window to the garden lol.
have heard of 3 day week but not sure why that happened.. were they conserving energy, did it just tie in with transport or energy problems. did people get paid for 5 days but just went in for 3 cos wasn't their fault.. these days might work from home or make the hours up when it was practicable..
expect there were fuel shortages, can't really remember! we didn't have a car so wouldn't be so aware..
