clare213 Hi there. If you cannot use mobile internet (data) when roaming in Europe, there could be a number of reasons why these issues occur, for example… incorrect internet settings (APN), roaming disabled in device settings, roaming status on your giffgaff account to switched off, poor local coverage and so on.
If you're having problems connecting to data while abroad, you may need to go in and change a few settings in your device (known as "APN settings").
Note: You need to be using the giffgaff APN: giffgaff.com
If your APN is set to something different, please use this guide to update your settings.
Please also check the following:
- Roaming is switched ‘on’ within your device settings.
- Check your giffgaff account roaming eligibility status to make sure that you qualify for EU roaming.
Please also note that as per giffgaff’s Roaming Fair Usage Guidelines: If you use giffgaff’s services outside the UK in the EU and their other selected destinations for 63 or more days in any four-month period and you cannot demonstrate prevailing use or presence in the UK this is likely to be deemed to be an unfair use of giffgaff’s services. When this happens charges will apply (If you have a goodybag, you will be charged 0.36p/MB for data, 3.2p/minute for calls and 1p/text for texts, otherwise our standard Pay As You Go rates apply), but giffgaff will always contact you 14 days before this time to make you aware of this. These charges will cease to apply when your behaviour is in accordance with this policy.
Please see giffgaff’s using your mobile abroad article for full details on roaming using giffgaff, associated charges and link to fair usage guidelines. Thanks.
