Sometime last year I posted about some changes that we were making to the alerts we send our members once they make a call/send a text. You can read more about this in my previous thread here.
As a reminder, the overall plan was to migrate to text message notifications since USSD messaging requires pretty old technology in order to function and will not be supported in the foreseeable future.
Because the number of alerts we send is quite big and migrating all of them to texts would have put a considerable strain on the network, we initially started by reducing the number of USSD alerts that we send. We are now in a strong position where we can move over completely from sending alerts to sending members a text message instead in order to update them on their remaining balance.
So, from April 6th we will be migrating all of our alerts from pop up notifications to text messages.
Update: this has been rescheduled for the 8th of April 2020
The way this works is that any new text message alert will replace the old one in your inbox to avoid clogging it up. If you do not want to receive these messages, members will still have the opportunity to turn off SMS notifications if they’d like too.
