Thank you for starting off our May Topic! That was a very thought-provoking piece. I remember the summer of 1963 we were on holiday visiting my grandparents. I was just over 12 years old, and shy. Also, it was a very sunny day and I didn’t feel very well, because I sunburn very easily (always have, being blonde) and I don’t like my picture being taken. I demurred about having my picture taken with my granddad. My dad told me later that night that it might have been my only chance to have the picture taken.
I was very close to my dad’s dad, as I had been named after his mother. True enough, I did not have another chance; we went home, and on the 10th of December that year, he died of a heart attack (and he had been suffering from lung cancer).
I regretted my actions in refusing the photo, and it taught me to try to redeem the time. You never know when something may be your last chance to make a difference and reach out to someone you care about. 🤡
