maglite I HAVE the giffgaff simcard in my posession that belongs to my parents emergency phone in there car , now i know its not been credited for over a year so posibly the number has been re used BUT im telling you this number (removed) is registered to me personaly
Although it may have been registered to you that does not mean you own it.
All U.K. numbers belong to Ofcom and they allocate them to the various providers for use by their customers.
In order to ensure that the supply of available numbers does not run out Ofcom mandates that providers must ensure that numbers are being actively used.
So each provider has to set out in their T&Cs what users need to do to keep their number live to prevent it being recycled.
Under giffgaff’s T&Cs there has to be activity on the account at least once every 6 months and the following are listed as what constitutes “activity”
a) make at least one call, SMS or MMS to another number (not including calls to emergency services or Member Services);
b) make at least one connection to the Internet;
c) make at least one airtime credit or Bundle purchase
You should receive either an e-mail or text from giffgaff prior to deactivation thus giving you the opportunity to keep the number.
However if the phone was not in regular use then you may well have missed these messages and so the sim got deactivated.
Indeed as recycled numbers are placed in “quarantine” for some time it is very likely that you lost it a while ago.
So sorry that you have lost that number but you can get another one.
Just remember that it is important that if you use it in a phone “just for emergencies” that you check it regularly to ensure that you don’t lose the number.
