Mr VJM is doing some woodwork atm, I was picking up all the curls of shavings to pop in the burner. Took me back to probably my first craft.
I’m slightly embarrassed to tell this tale, but we are amongst friends …..
I was about 7, I made a doll, all hand sewn with massive stitches, I stuffed her with wood shavings ( I can remember the smell, there were council workers in the next street fitting a front door, I bagged up the shavings took them home) sewed on a face, cut a whole for the mouth and glued in a tic tac box so she could have a dummy!
I remember it as clear as yesterday, I though she was brilliant.
My point is, it must have been within me to be creative, I needed to make things, I also took 2 wood building blocks, cut a belt up and nailed a bit on the blocks to make sandals 😀 They didn’t fit, they were too small, but I had the opportunity to do these things, because that’s what children did, they created things at home if they were bored, made hedgehogs out of dried teasels or sewed little purses and such like.
What were your first memories of being creative?
Can’t be any worse than mine!
