It’s me again. For those of you who missed my post earlier, here is a brief introduction - I’m Alexa, and I’m the Senior Brand & Advertising Manager at giffgaff. I’ve been here for just over 18 months and have loved working on the development of our phones offering - particularly our first ever Refurbished pop up shop last year.
This year I’m proud to present to you our new Black Friday campaign - ‘ ‘Check Your Drawers’ (Yes, we are being cheeky) where we want you to have a good look in your drawers to find those old, unused phones or the phones that you had safely hidden and forgotten about.
We’ve partnered with the guys from LADbible and the lovely Manga to bring this campaign to life. Also, together with LadBible, we’ve been doing some serious fact finding. Did you know that there are over 55 million phones sat in the drawers, unused in the UK. Bonkers isn’t it?
We are often chasing the next or the new thing but this is having a serious impact on our environment and the planet. So, this Black Friday we are taking one more step towards our sustainability commitment and encouraging our members to follow the circular economy model to reduce waste.
So, here is the plan. When you find an old phone, you can do one of these three things:
See if you can trade in your phone with us. Before it goes to a new home, we’ll give it a nice tidy and you will get some cash in return. It’s a win-win for all.
If your phone’s a bit too old or damaged to be refurbished, we’ll help you find your nearest recycling point via our partners Recycle Your Electricals. While recycling your phone won’t get you any cash, you will be doing a lot of good to the environment. It’s definitely something to be pleased about.
Note: Please follow the Government’s Covid guidelines. You can get your phone ready to go, but please don’t make a trip to your recycling point until it’s safe to do so.
Gift for good
If your phone can be refurbished, we’ll give you the option to donate the value of it to charity. You can choose whether to make a donation of 10%, 25%, 50%, or 100%. This money will then go to the Neighbourly Foundation to fund grassroots causes that support local communities.
So, let’s make the most of this Black Friday and do our bit by putting our old phones to good use and help the planet.
Our Black Friday deals are also coming soon, so you will get to see some top stuff there as well.
While you are having a rummage, do let us know the top three things that you find in your drawer and the funny or nostalgic memory that you have of one of them. It could be a story of an old phone.
Really excited to hear what you find.
UPDATE 13th NOVEMBER
It’s me again!
Following on from my post earlier in the week, I also wanted to share with you our November TV ad featuring our wonderful member Ishaaq. The ad is the next phase of our ‘giffgaff gives back’ story and explains our circular phone economy in more detail. Keep your eyes peeled for the end frame too as we made a little update to our logo! We hope you like it!
UPDATE 26th NOVEMBER
Hope you all are keeping well and safe.
As you all are aware, we’ve been trying to encourage all our members to trade off their old phones with us and donate a value to the charities.
We’ve recently received a lovely conversation between comedian Manga and Emmaus . We’ve been supporting Emmaus through your kind donations and it’s making a massive difference to them.
Manga also spoke to Craig, who suffered from homelessness at some point in his life but with the support of Emmaus, he has managed to overcome it.
You can watch this inspiring story here
Thanks again for your kind donations and if any of you would like to find out how you can support these charities in need then please visit the page here
