I used a Windows phone for a few years that was gifted to me with a giffgaff SIM card and it wasn’t a bad phone.
However when the community hosting moved I found that it cut windows phone users off from anything but a read only version of the community.
I had to update and got an Android phone after destroying the charging port on the Lumia late one night after a particular long day at work with an upside down usb plug.
I did learn of others using the same phones and some using giffgaff too.
The other day I was told by someone still using their well looked after and otherwise indistinguishable from when it was new Lumia that now even the giffgaff log in page to access their dashboard has stopped working with their windows phone so they are now totally dependent on the good and reliable 43430 line for checking their allowances and credit, and purchasing goodybags by voucher or same to add credit.
This is a great example of any were required of big tech companies like Microsoft pulling the rug out from under their own technology and giving a figurative finger to those who have funded their gargantuan profits.
In context of my previous post on circular economies this is really linear, and only three years from start to virtual obsolescence that has got to be close to the s record Microsoft! Bad practice from another US tech giant.
It would be great if people still felt passionately about such trivia as where they or their descendants are going to have to live to have company boycotting or consumer embargoes like those that worked effectively in years gone by.
Like the anti apartheid boycott of Cape fruit and before that to demonstrate against Israeli treatment of the Palestinians the Jaffa orange boycott.
I don’t know if people have the same interest in such matters today distracted by their devices and the platitudes from the plutocrats owned media.
