I'm Steve, the giffgaff handset supply manager.
I wanted to share some great news and changes we will be making to Marketplace going forward.
As you may know we currently have 2 separate offers for used handsets: Refurbished and Pre-Owned. Starting Monday:
We are doing this to ensure everyone clearly knows what to expect from our graded devices and it will simplify things with all our range under a single Refurbished page. Our full range can be viewed here Refurbished Range
We are also pleased to announce that we will be extending the warranty on our graded devices from 6 to 12 months. We hope this will give members added peace of mind that you're covered for a full year when ordering any refurbished device.
If you've already bought a device from us the great news is we will honor a 12 month warranty on all those too - starting from when you bought the device - so great news for everyone.
Hope you are as happy as we are about these changes and we cannot wait to hear your thoughts about them.
That will help, one recommendation would be for apple devices, check the battery level - anything with say 85% battery health capacity shouldnt be sent out. Someone yesterday I read had a phone from gg and it was 73% capacity, which is really bad. This would help stop returns also
I seem to be alone in thinking the change is not for the better. The difference between as new and pre-owned is now too subtle.
Looking at the page you've linked all phones are listed as refurbished and the "as new" bit is easily lost in all the other text. It seems to be a case of fixing something that wasn't broken.
I recently bought a refurbished phone and I'm very happy with it, and I was very clear in what I was going to get for my money. Not so happy that you dropped the price by £30 a few days after I bought it though, but that's life I suppose.
