Update:

 Hi everyone,

Thanks for your interest in the test so far, I’ve got a bit of an update for you.

I’m happy to announce that after reviewing the data for the test so far it has given us the confidence to roll the test out further and make the offer available for all members who reach this activation screen.

We will now be tweaking the test to ensure we only show variants offering the full MGM rewards, this will be running alongside a promotion and as such any recommendations will also be eligible for the same rewards, £10 credit for the joiner £5 Payback for the recommender. If you want to find out more about the promotion you can check out the other community announcement here.

Now we are rolling out this test further our advice does change a bit. We want to know if this is a genuinely better way to recruit your friends so if you want to recommend your friends in that way you can now go ahead and do what best suits you!

Good day giffgaffers,

Here’s a quick heads up on some testing we are going to be running within the activation journey from next Wednesday (the 6th September) for a couple of weeks.

What are we doing?

As part of our continual development of the MGM (Member Get Member) referral programme, we are looking into new ways to enable our members to recruit their friends. One area we want to test is the friend referral box at the end of the activation journey.

Screen Shot 2017-08-25 at 15.23.16.png

Right now, a member will receive £2 (200 Payback points) when a new joiner enters a member's number at the point of activation. We will be running a test where some new members when activating will be offered standard MGM rewards (£5 free credit  £10 free credit, £5 Payback for their friend who recommended them) should they choose to enter their friend’s mobile number by 31/10/17. We want to see if this changes how often people put their friends number in.

To make sure we can be confident in the test results, these additional rewards will only be available to the members who are randomly selected to see this version of the activation flow (members on the other side of the test will continue to see the standard reward of 200 Payback points for their friend).

Why are we doing this?

We hope that you’ll agree that providing another way for members to be recognised for sharing the giffgaff love is a good thing. Smiley Happy

We are testing this to understand how popular this proves with members, understand the amount of recommendations that are happening that aren’t being fully rewarded at the moment and the commercial impact of developing the MGM programme further.

For some further technical information regarding the test check the spoiler below:

Click to reveal

Some technical information regarding the test:

  • It may take up to 48 hours for new members joining to receive their £5 credit, as their SIM will not be automatically provisioned with the credit offer (like a standard MGM or Super Recruiter SIM card).

  • Should anyone want to recruit new members we still recommend you order a SIM and hand it to your friends to ensure you receive the correct rewards. As we cannot guarantee which side of the test that any member you specifically refer will enter (members are chosen at random at the end of the activation flow and can’t choose the page they see).

  • Members who activate this way won’t count towards your MGM activation total during this test, as usual - they still count just as Recommendations.That means they won’t count towards the 15 activation total to become a Super Recruiter or be eligible for Super Recruiter rewards.

  • Should a joining member enter a Super Recruiter’s giffgaff number in the recommender field the Super Recruiter will receive the £5 Payback (they will not count as a standard SR activation - just as is the case normally).

  • We would really like this to be an effective test, so please don’t go in and experience it for yourself unless you’re activating a SIM card in the usual way.

So - if you see someone in the Help forum asking about their referral rewards over the next few weeks, there could be a few more options for them than usual. The agents are completely up to speed with this in case it needs to go to them but this should give you all the info you need to reply to any threads that might crop up.

Let us know if you have any further questions and we’ll answer as many as we can.

Thanks all,

Chris (MGM Manager)

Hi Chris,

So as these sims are basically ordered from giffgaff and not from a member's account (MGM sim), does this mean you can activate the sim with buying a £5 goodybag from a debit/credit, as usual, and still receive the £5 credit? Unlike at the moment the MGM sim requires a £10 topup/goodybag bought directly to activate the sim.

But it certainly does capture how many referrals are being missed, after all a good cash incentive certainly helps.  Man Happy

so some peeps will see the new formula and others won't, thats going to make it a bit more complicated when new members start asking questions as they won't know there is a difference with the activation page if there are issues with payback awards?

say thanks, click the Kudos button, has your question been solved? select the Best Answer

What happens with Super Recruiters? Do they get £2 / £5 as offered, or do they have to wait for topups?

@harrrrrry

They get the offer if they're selected and they'll get the 500 payback points as normal aswell, no need to wait for a 2nd or 3rd topup, and the sim won't count towards their recruit list because the sim hasn't been ordered from their account so it's not an MGM sim, and if not selected it'll be 200 points as normal for the referral, that's the way I'm reading it anyway buddy.

SR's will receive 500 'Extra growth points' (orwhatever they are called) instead of the 200 they would normally receive for SIM cards activated in this way

Hi all,

Thanks for all the questions I appreciate its a bit of a complicated test.

@jokeyboi77 @englandsnumber1

With regards to the £10 Minimum spend this will not be apply, during the test joining members will still be eligible to fall into the test if they have activated with less than £10.

@jondav14

I appreciate it might be a bit complicated for answering members questions. As we are not activly marketing out about this test most joining members will not know any different. If someone is asking about it we could assume they have fallen into the test variant. I would suggest referring these members to agents if for any reason they believe they haven't received the rewards they have earnt.

@harrrrrry @figment_uk

That's correct. The actual transaction is being treated the same as usual i.e. it is still counted as a referral and not an MGM or Super Recruiter activation. As such if a joining member falls into the test and enters a super recruiters number the super recruiter will receive £5 Payback not the super recruiter rewards. Likewise any activations for a non super recruiter will still only count as a referral and not an MGM and will not count towards the 15 activations to become a super recruiter.

Hope these answers help, let me know if you have any further questions.

Cheers,

@chris_j_b

Thanks for clarifying.

As a side note, one thing that needs revisiting is the option of entering the referring members user name instead of their number (this is how it used to be until a couple of years ago).   The reason for this is that total strangers might pick up a member name from the community after receiving help, but would not have the helping member's mobile number.  (Ideally they would follow an affiliate link when ordering the SIM, but we know that doesn't always happen)

Cheers for clearing that up buddy, giffgaff will take a hit on the referral sim then if the member joining activates their sim with buying a £5 goodybag directly from a card and giffgaff gives away £10 in rewards if they put in a phone number as their refferal and the person who joins throws away their sim after the first month. Man Surprised
