My choice would be guidedogs
i think it would be amazing way to use giffgaff charity money, giving someone a guide dog
It costs £5 per day to support each working guide dog partnership.
There are around 5,000 guide dog owners in the UK.
The lifetime cost of a guide dog is around £55,000.
Thanks for the mention @t_will
The Payback selection window won't close until next month?
Unless I have misunderstood the voting procedures, the votes on this thread would be counted and the two charities with the highest eligible votes win. In effect a self determining result, without the need for deliberation.
You are right that the results need to be announced before the payback window closes. For many, their support will depend on who eventually wins this poll.
Perhaps a later target date could be agreed for concluding the vote and the subsequent counting of the votes.
Ah, yeah, a little wrinkle there - this thread is for nominations, which happen before votes. The top five of this thread then get put to a vote, which is conducted through a web app that's sent to members by email. From that much wider audience, it's the top two of that vote that get the matched funds - and it takes some time to construct all of that in between (for example, we send out five different emails for the votes to ensure no one charity is featured with any greater prominence than any other).
@t_will and all those nominating Will's Fund.
This is not a registered charity. The associated charity is the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds (Register 1057295), making it the eligible nominee.
Thanks for the flag - I'll make sure we're tracking this correctly.
I nominate Pancreatic Cancer Action.
I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer, 7 weeks after he was diagnosed. 😢 We now realise (too late) that he had symptoms a year beforehand but doctors didn’t know what to look for and had no way to test for it. Turns out that whilst other cancers have received huge injections of research cash and become way more survivable, pancreatic cancer has not. Funding and shockingly low survival rates haven’t changed for pancreatic cancer in over 40 years 😱
I nominate Pancreatic Cancer Action because they are a small charity who do some really fantastic things to give people a chance of earlier diagnosis and a better chance of surviving. They’re a bit like GiffGaff - They are great fun to follow and support and they do cool stuff that makes a big difference. If GiffGaff members donate they could be proud to be part of a GiffGaff-TeamPCA. It will be so worth it! 🤗
