Hi everyone! We've got the final count of the charity votes in, and I'm happy to announce your two Payback charities for December 2017 are British Heart Foundation and Save the Children.

If you'd like to make sure your donation goes to these wonderful charities, all you need to do is head to the Payback selection page and and choose the charity option. We'll tot up everyone's donation, match it, then split it between the two.

The split of the charity vote across all members who participated is as follows:

Charities Percentage
British Heart Foundation 31.39%
Save the Children 29.42%
Whale and Dolphin Conservation 16.66%
UNHCR (UN Refugee Fund) 12.22%
Internet Watch Foundation 10.32%

As well as choosing to donate to these charities by choosing the charity option, you can make an individual donation to these charities as well if you'd like. We've set up a few pages with JustGiving to allow people to text their donations in, and you can visit the donation page directly as well. The underlined part can be £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 - whatever amount you choose. If you're taking your Payback as airtime credit then this is one way you can contribute if you'd like - the pages will be open well into the new year.

Thanks,

Will

Hi folks!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a charity in our recent thread. This year we had a wide selection of charities nominated and the most charity nominations for any period on record. Every charity here has been picked by giffgaffers as a worthy cause, and whoever the vote goes to, your Payback will be making a difference.

I'm happy to announce that the charities that are going to public vote from the nominations earlier in the month are as follows:

Internet Watch Foundation - https://www.iwf.org.uk/

Whale and Dolphin Conservation - http://whales.org

British Heart Foundation - https://www.bhf.org.uk/

Save the Children - https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/

UN Refugee Agency - http://www.unhcr.org

We're sending out emails to everyone who's received Payback points starting on Tuesday November 28th, so if you're looking to vote, keep an eye on your inbox for an email from us, including a little bit about the charities and what they do. Each email will have a link specifically for you, which can only be used to vote once - so make sure your vote is going to the charity you believe in.

The vote will be open until 23:59 on December 3rd, so you've got plenty of time to make a decision and vote. We'll take the sum total of the Payback of everyone who chooses a charity donation for this Payback period, match it, and give it to the top two charities so they'll each get the full benefit of member donations.

Keep an eye on your inbox for an email from us - and don't forget to make your Payback selection if you haven't already!

Do I need to choose to send my Payback to a charity to vote?

No - every member is eligible to vote no matter how they're taking their Payback. However, if you do choose to donate yours to charity, we'll match it, effectively doubling your donation.

I want to donate to a charity that's not in the list, can I?

The best way to do this is to take your Payback as cash to PayPal, and make a donation directly. We'll also be setting up easy donation links for you to do this for these charities nearer Payback payout time.

How much do the charities get?

It's completely up to our members - the more people that choose to donate their Payback to charity, the more the charities receive. In June 2017 members donated over £28,000 to charity.

I didn't get an email, why not?

First, make sure you check your spam box.. Because of technical limitations with our system that gives everyone a single-use voting link, we can only send one email to each email address for this vote. That means if you have more than one account on the same email address, we'll need to manually re-send you a link for the other accounts.

Thanks for letting us know. A bit of a shame that the voting window is so small. Some members will miss out on voting if they are away for a week or two.
