Sim not activated text message.

Firstly read the thread below

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Ask-the-community-got-stuck/how-do-you-find-out-what-your-numb...

That is just one of many threads that get started almost daily by newbies thinking that just because they have inserted the sim into their phones and got a signal and in most cases received a text from 2020 with internet settings in it, then the sim has been activated.

It is then only after about 10 replies that the newbie then makes a slip up and informs us that they have not topped up yet that we realize they HAVE NOT yet activated.

So what I propose is this.

All new sim cards once inserted into a phone send out a signal to giffgaff informing them the sim card has a signal.

Then giffgaff/O2 send out the internet settings 2020 text.

As well as that text why not send out another text saying:

"Your sim card is not yet fully active. To activate visit http://www.giffgaff.com and click the activate a sim link. Remember during the activation process you will be required to to up minimum £10"

Or words to that effect.

What do you guy's and gal's think???

The SIM can't send out the settings message until the SIM is actually activated (there isn't a phone number to send it to until the activation has completed).  So I'm sorry but you are mistaken about the settings text being sent before activation.

So sorry this can't work. Smiley Sad

As7861 that's nothing like my idea. My idea is not to change the way we top up and activate the sim card but is just a friendly text reminding newbies that the sim still needs to be activated online.

Bertiebat yes it can actually coz that is exactly what happened when I received my current sim card. Also once upon a time giffgaff gave away 100MB of internet free per day for around 18 months. During this time they introduced the internet bar onto all sim cards due to newbies ordering Sims and slotting them into their phones and WITHOUT activating using the free internet. So the bar was put in place and only lifted once the sim was fully activated and topped up.

As7816 that status does not apply here coz we are not sending out text messages rather receiving them.

OK sorry 1hale as I can't understand how the system does that without a phone number but I suppose the internet might be different.  Very strange.
