Newer Apple devices are able to update to iOS 10. Apple has now released iOS 9. This article will help you prepare for this update to make sure that you make the most of it. More Information Why update iOS? As a general rule, we advise to upgrade to the latest version of your phone software so you can enjoy the latest features and also ensure you are using the safest version.   If you are currently using a version of iOS older than iOS 7 then you are already missing the following:   The network logo displays O2-UK instead of giffgaff. The Internet and MMS settings are not managed automatically and have to be set manually. This can lead to troubles using Internet and MMS. You can now use the personal hotspot function. You only tether on:   all goodybags. all gigabags. Pay As You Go credit.   Updating to iOS 9 will ensure that you can benefit from these features and that your Internet and MMS settings are the latest available.   iOS 9 also comes with a lot of new features, including updates to Siri and iTunes integration, see this blog post for more details about the new iOS.     Is iOS 9 available for your iDevice? iOS 9 is compatible with following devices   iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus* iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2. iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3. iPod touch (fifth generation).   * With the exception of the iPhone 4s, all of the listed phones will upgrade to iOS 10 and bypass iOS 9 if upgrading from a lower iOS version.   If you happen to have an older iPhone or iPad then see this article which will help you make the most of it on giffgaff.   If you are thinking about upgrading then you can find more information about the Apple phone range in the phone section.     How to upgrade To upgrade your iDevice to the last available version of iOS, you can do the following:   Go to Settings. Tap General - If there is a newer version available then a notification is displayed next to the label. The details of the version are displayed, tap Install now. Read and accept the Terms and Conditions. The installation starts. Your iDevice will reboot. All done, enjoy the new version.   It's also possible to update iOS to the latest version by plugging your iDevice to your computer. Launch iTunes and select your device. You can then check for the latest update and install it.   During the update, you may be asked if you want to reset your carrier settings. If this happens then select reset the carrier profile. This is also the default answer. This will make sure that you are using the most up to date Internet and MMS settings.   This will replace your current profile with giffgaff's Internet settings, including the parameters which can't be modified manually (e.g. proxy settings).     After the upgrade If you are not already using it, have a look at our iPhone app it's the best companion for all iPhone users on giffgaff.   If you are also thinking of upgrading your phone then see this blog post which will give you a lot of tips to help you purchase your next smartphone.

First of all remember to save all your contacts and messages to your SIM card to have them available on your new BlackBerry 10 device. There is a tutorial on first launch that will help you set-up everything you need. It works for both new and seasoned BlackBerry users alike.   The tutorial will guide you through the following steps:   Connect to the mobile network, including data connection. Connect to the Wi-Fi network. Presentation and acceptance of the BlackBerry Solution Licence Agreement. Configuration of the BlackBerry ID. Diagnostic and location. Software update. The experience in bullet point 4 differs if you already used a BlackBerry and have a BlackBerry ID already.     What about BlackBerry Services? All BlackBerry services are available on devices running BlackBerry 10 automatically without having to activate BlackBerry Services in My giffgaff.   If you were already a BlackBerry user before but are not using it anymore then you can deactivate BlackBerry Services, as it is not compatible and would prevent you from buying a goodybag should you need one.     I'm new to BlackBerry, how can I set-up the BlackBerry ID? The easiest solution is to set-up your BlackBerry ID during the first launch tutorial, but you can also do it later if you skipped this step. To do so   Load the set-up menu. Click on the BlackBerry ID icon in the Get connected section.   During the first launch tutorial, select the Create new option to load the creation form. In this form, you will be able to   Set your BlackBerry ID. Your password. Your recovery question and answer.     I already have a BlackBerry ID, can I register it? Yes you can. When you go through the first launch tutorial, you will be asked to create a BlackBerry ID, or to sign-in if you already got one.   If you choose to skip this step then you'll be able to register your BlackBerry ID later, from the Setup menu.     How can I switch data from my old BlackBerry to my new BlackBerry? If you already have a BlackBerry handset and are upgrading to a new handset running BlackBerry 10, you can switch your personal data from one handset to the other.   To do so   Load the Setup menu. Click on the Device Switch icon in the Make it your own section. It will direct you toward the appropriate method, according to the BlackBerry version your previous handset is running.   With this method, you'll be able to transfer personal data, such as phone settings, Browser bookmarks or BBM contacts.     How can I set-up my email on my BlackBerry 10 handset? Setting up your email address on BlackBerry 10 is very easy.   Go to the Setup menu. Click on the Accounts icon in the Get connected section.   In the setup form, you just need to give your email address and password, the handset will be looking for the relevant settings for you. When your account has been added to your handset, a new page asks you for a few options, like the push preferences.     Handy Links Guide to using a BlackBerry on giffgaff Troubleshooting issues on a BlackBerry

The instructions mentioned are based upon WM6.1 Professional, and thus will be slightly different for non-touch devices. There may also be slight different variations according to device manufacturer. More information Internet Settings  After activating your SIM, insert your SIM card into your device and switch it on. Your phone may recognise the network as 'O2 UK'. This is because giffgaff runs on the O2 network, and is nothing to worry about. If your phone asks you if you would like to retrieve O2 settings, then decline, as O2 settings are not compatible with giffgaff. Go to Start. Go to Settings. Go to the Connections tab (located near the bottom of the screen). Tap the Connections icon (near the top). Go to the 'Advanced' tab (located near the bottom of the screen). Tap the Select Networks button. In both of the drop-down boxes, choose 'My ISP'. Tap 'ok' in the extreme top-right corner of the screen. Go the Tasks tab (located near the bottom of the screen). Tap/press 'Add a new modem connection'. In the 'Enter a name for the connection:' box, type 'giffgaff'(or any other name you want). In the 'Select a modem:' drop-down box, select 'Cellular line (GPRS, 3G)' Press the Next soft key on the extreme bottom-right of the screen. Under 'Access point name:' type exactly giffgaff.com Press the Next soft key. Set the username as giffgaff Set the password as password Press the Finish soft key on the extreme bottom-right of the screen. Tap 'ok' in the extreme top-right corner of the screen twice. Go to the Personal tab (located near the bottom of the screen). Tap/press the Phone icon. Click on the 'Advanced' tab near the bottom of the screen (you may need to scroll by tapping/pressing on the 'right' arrowhead on the right-hand side of the tabs). Make sure Disable phone packet data service is unchecked. Tap on HSPA Setting. Choose 'Enable HSDPA / HSUPA' in the drop-down menu. Tap 'ok' either in the bottom-left or top-right corner of the screen. Tap 'ok' in the top-right corner of the screen. Tap the 'X' button (where the 'ok' button was) once. Internet troubleshooting If you are encountering any problems with internet, proceed through the following steps until the problem is fixed: Ensure that your internet is set up for giffgaff properly. Ensure that it is your giffgaff SIM in the phone, and that it is activated. In the status bar (the bar located at the top of the screen with the Start sign in it), tap on the larger square which has either 'G', 'E', '3G' or 'H' contained within it. If you have an active connection, click on Disconnect. Open Internet Explorer (not another browser) and attempt to visit any website. If successful, then your internet is now working and you may now use any browser you wish. If that failed, repeat Steps 4 and 5, and then step 4 again. Click on Wireless Manager. Tap on 'Phone' to deactivate the phone functionality of the device. Tap on 'Phone' again to reactivate the phone functionality of the device. Tap on the 'X' in the extreme top-right corner of the screen. Repeat Step 6. If that failed, turn your device off and back on again, or perform a soft reset. Repeat Step 6. If that failed, turn your phone off, remove your SIM, put it back in and turn your phone on. Repeat Step 6. If your internet is still not working, there may be a problem with the giffgaff network. Repeat steps 4 and 5 and try again later. Planned regional outages are always announced on the giffgaff notice board. MMS (Multimedia messaging) Ensure that your internet is set up and functioning before proceeding to configure MMS settings.  Go to your text message inbox. Go to the Menu.   Press/Tap on MMS Options…   Go to the Servers tab (near the bottom of the screen)   Go to New.   Under Server name, type giffgaff or any other name that takes your fancy.   Under Gateway, type exactly 82.132.254.1   For Port number, put 8080.   Under Server address, type http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002   In the Connect via drop-down box, choose My ISP (or wherever else contains your working giffgaff internet settings).   Keep the rest as it is, and tap on Done.   Tap on Set as Default.   Tap on ok (in the top-right corner of your screen) to get back to your text message inbox. Check your balance and goodybag status Normally, you can check your airtime balance by dialling *100# and check your goodybag status by dialling *100*7#. However, if this does not work:   (The following is subject to your balance notifications being turned on)   To check your airtime balance Simply dial 43430 (gg top-up voucher line) for free and then hang up. Your balance should appear onscreen.   To check your goodybag status The number of minutes remaining on your goodybag will appear onscreen after each connected call. Voicemail Contacts entry   giffgaff SIM's have three numbers stored in them as contacts, of which one is named 'gg voicemail'. This number is meant to be 443 (spelling GIF) but if you have an older SIM it will be stored as 111, which is giffgaff's old voicemail number (and now the new number for NHS Direct, hence the change). You can edit it to 443, but it may revert to 111 if you take the SIM out of your phone, since the contacts entry is 'hard coded' into the SIM.   Voicemail notifications   The standard behaviour for voicemail notifications is for the device to display the voicemail symbol and inform you that you have x number of new voicemail messages and will give you the option to press/tap a button to call voicemail. However, in doing this, your device may attempt to dial O2's voicemail number. To fix this behaviour:  Tap/press Start.   Tap/press Settings.   Tap the Phone icon.   Go to the Services tab (near the bottom of the screen)   Select 'Voicemail and Text Messages'   Tap Get Settings…   The 'Text messages service center' should already be +447802002606. Change the 'Voice Mail' number to 443.   Tap on 'ok' in the top-right corner of the screen.   If you are presented with an error message, don't worry - just choose Cancel. Your new voicemail number will still be set.   Keep pressing 'OK' or 'X' (in the top-right corner of the screen) until you are back to the home screen. Free access to giffgaff.com - warning! (Applies to non-goodybag users from 1st December 2010)   From 1st December 2010, giffgaff will start charging for internet use without a goodybag, with the exemption of giffgaff.com, which will remain free to access on your phone, even without a goodybag.   However, it must be borne in mind that accessing giffgaff.com using: Opera Mini Opera Mobile with the Opera Turbo feature enabled Skyfire any other proxy or HTML trans-coder will incur charges.   To avoid such charges, you can use one of the following browsers:   Opera Mobile with Opera Turbo disabled (do not get confused between Opera Mini and Opera Mobile) Iris Browser Internet Explorer (works OK with the giffgaff forums but not the rest of the site) Handy links giffgaff updates notice board When to contact an agent Internet and MMS settings (APN) guide How do I keep my current mobile number
