Blackberry...the wait is over.

I’m really pleased to announce that from today you’ll be able to get Blackberry services on giffgaff.  You can now get a Blackberry add on to your goodybag for an additional £3, which will give you access to full Blackberry services, such as BBM.

We’ve had lots of giffgaff members asking for us to provide Blackberry services both here on the Forum and in our Social networks, especially on our Facebook page.

Unfortunately we had to delay the launch of Blackberry due to some service issues which impacted our core infrastructure however with fixes made (and being made), I’m happy to say that we are now in a position to push Blackberry live. For those giffgaffers who buy the Hokey Cokey goodybag, you’ll have a little longer to wait (sorry) as we are still working on adding the functionality to buy it with Hokey Cokey.

We had some handy giffgaffers helping with the testing of Blackberry so thank you to all of those who helped out.

So, that’s it, giffgaff meet Blackberry, Blackberry meet giffgaff.  Why not pass on the good news and let your friends who are on Blackberry know that giffgaff is up and running with BB.

@iceqntrider - absolutely not on purpose.

I'm sure you can see the challenges of us giving a fixed date again for this. We've really wanted this to be out and worked hard towards it, and people have wanted it as soon as possible of course. In terms of making the judgement of if Blackberry could go live or not both in the past and today, it's very often been a case of keeping an eye on things right up until the final hours to confirm it or not.

Happily, it's here now! :-)

Does the blackberry need configuring or is it instant access to bb services?

Point 4 of the BB FAQ says:

If you buy the BlackBerry Add-on with Hokey Cokey or the £5 Unlimited Text goodybag you will still be charged our PAYG rate of 20p a MB for internet usage, but BlackBerry Messenger and BlackBerry Push Email will be free.

But the top up pages says:

Note: The BlackBerry Add-on is available combined with all goodybags apart from Hokey Cokey and data only gigabags.

Bit of a contradition there, needs a tidy up.

at long last...... (not that i really care personally, but at least it will stop all the 'when is BB coming' questions on the forum)

now im just worried if the network will crash

@donnawinter10 - sadly, we can't. As both products have to be purchased at the same time in order to get the Blackberry Services going.

If you do have an active Goodybag, you'll have to wait until this one expires before then buying a new one with the add-on.

We appreciate that for people who have bought a Goodybag recently, they will have to wait a little longer. As the opportunity was here to get this out there, we wanted people to be able to enjoy this as soon as they possibly could.
