Our smartphones take some really good quality photos but if you’re someone who wants to share them on social media then you’ll probably want to spice them up. Simply sharing a photo just doesn’t cut it anymore, so if you want to up your game then Over might just be the perfect app to help you.
Photoshop is great for manipulating photos and doing some cool things but a) it costs, b) it requires a computer and c) it takes some time to get used to it. Over, on the other hand, is essentially a mobile version of Photoshop, except it comes with pre-built effects and tools, which do all the hard work for you. It requires no knowledge and it’s so easy to use. Check out some of the images below for an idea of what can be done. I think you’d agree that they’re rather eye-catching and sure beat a basic photo.
You don’t have to be good at design
Looking at some of the images above, you might feel like you don’t have the creative flair to create anything identical. That’s where Over is so awesome because it has over 4000 templates that you can literally choose and edit. They’re also great for some inspiration, even if you choose not to use them.
You don’t have to be good at taking photos
The app also has millions of commercial-free stock images that you can use, which may be more ideal for whatever it is you’re trying to achieve. Sharing a quote that sits above a relevant stock photo instead of a plain, boring background is just one way in which you can make use of these.
To get you started, the app offers some training templates that walks you through, step-by-step, how to edit it to make it yours. It’s a great way to get a feel for how the app works.
Learn the tools
It also teaches you how to use certain tools, such as the Mask tool, so you can do really cool things like make text appear behind the foreground image. Again, a really good way to get yourself familiar with the app. Although, I’d say it’s pretty straightforward to use but these features are useful nonetheless.
Add your own images
This is a little obvious as it’s an app to make your photos look even better but you can easily add your own logo, which is essentially your watermark.
It doesn’t matter if you’re creating for Facebook, Instagram stories, Instagram posts, YouTube thumbnails etc, the app has you covered so you don’t have to worry about the size of your canvas. Just select and go.
Pick pre-designed artwork and modify it (you can edit each element individually).
You can use the colour picker to choose a colour that already exists on your canvas.25,000+ graphics and fonts
You can choose from a heap of overlay effects, filters, fonts, colours, backgrounds, shapes etc.
Just like Photoshop, the app works in layers. Every image and every text element you add will be in its own layer. This makes it very easy to move certain elements on top of or behind another.
Get back to editing later
Every piece of art work you create is automatically saved in your projects, which means you can go back and edit them at any time. You can also of course export these.
Download it for free (iOS only)
Sorry Android users, this one is only available for iOS users. It’s free but some of the templates, graphics and fonts come at a cost. You’ll need the Pro mode to use them. However, the free version still has a lot of options and the app gets freebies added to it on a daily basis so it’s not very restrictive like most free apps.
For the Pro mode, the cost is as follows: £8.99 monthly, £52.99 yearly (£4.41 a month) or £299.99 for lifetime access. The latter seems very steep but I think it’d be ideal for small businesses wanting to use it for social media marketing or something alike. It’s not worth it for individuals but, as I said earlier, the free mode still offers a lot. It’s definitely adequate.
I’m a Photoshop user but I think Over is absolutely incredible. Being able to create whenever I want, wherever I want is so convenient. The fact that the app has all the tools in place too, makes creating so much easier, so it doesn’t take much time at all. It’s perfect for social media marketing, creating YouTube thumbnails, posters and even birthday cards. The list is endless really. I also think it’s epic because it’s an app for everyone, whether you’ve got an eye for design or not. If you’re someone who thinks you don’t then I bet this app will soon change that
What do you think of it? Could you see yourself using it and, if so, what for? Let me know in the comments below and thank you for reading
