Thank you from Save the Children

Save the Children was one of the top two charities nominated by giffgaffers for this December's charity vote, and will be receiving community Payback this December. To help you choose which charity you'd like to support, we invited them to write a guest post detailing the great work your donations will help make happen.

Thank you so much for nominating Save the Children in the Payback Charity Vote 2017. We are delighted to have achieved such a large share of the votes.

2017 has been yet another big year for Save the Children as we’ve responded to emergencies in East Africa, Yemen, Syria and saved refugee children at risk of drowning in the Mediterranean.  Here in the UK we’ve led the campaign to secure a reversal in government policy on refugee children alone in Europe. And yesterday Jumper joy swept the nation as our Christmas Jumper Day saw millions of people make the world better with a sweater.

Currently, we are working around the clock to reach the more than 300,000 Rohingya children who have fled in terror from an explosion of violence in Myanmar. These children’s lives have been turned upside down. They have moved into settlements which are makeshift, overcrowded, and unsanitary.

But the situation is not hopeless. The work made possible by this support will save children’s lives and give them the vital support they need. With your support, we can protect children and provide them with the basic lifesaving care they urgently need. We are working relentlessly to provide protection and care to children who are hungry and scared. We’re helping those who are lost and alone to trace their families, and have opened safe spaces where children can play and just be children again. Our Emergency Health Unit– a world-class team of doctors, nurses and logistics experts – is in Bangladesh, delivering vital health, nutrition and hygiene care that will help families fight the spread of disease.

So far, we've distributed emergency shelter kits to 57,996 Rohingya families already, ensuring 75,084 children have a safe place to live.

We couldn’t do this or any of our other work around the world without supporters like you. So, thank you again.

As we approach our one hundred-year anniversary in 2019, we will continue to save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.
