Zobia22: My Music

former giff-staffer

Hi guys, a couple of weeks ago, Hazel introudced our new educator series called 'My music' and last week Marion shared her music with you guys. What did you think of their song choices?

Today it's my turn, so here goes:

18th May 1988 - With a little help from my friends by Wet Wet Wet

I didn't know what song was number 1 on my birthday so had to Google it. Yesterday was the first time I heard this song, and even though it's 25 years old, I can see why it was number 1 at the time - it is 'quite' catchy Smiley Very Happy

1990s

No scrubs by TLC

I don't know anyone who didn't like this song in the 90's. I was 11 yrs old when this song was released and I remember watching the video and trying to copy the dance moves to this song. These girls were so cool! I still listen to this song to this day. It's in my 'car' playlist as the bass to this song is amazing.

A close second was 'The boy is mine' by Brandy and Monica.

                                                                             2000s - Hips don't lie by Shakira

This one was really hard as there are so many good songs from this decade. It took me a while to decide, but in the end it had to be 'Hips don't lie' by Shakira (ft Wyclef Jean). I remember this song was released early 2006 and by the time it hit summer, this song was being played everywhere. It was definitely the anthem for summer 2006. This is my favourite live performance of the song.

A close second was Mariah Carey's ballad 'We belong together'. This song was on her comeback album 'The Emanicipation of Mimi' - one of my favourite albums.

2010s
Nothin on you by B.O.B

I remember the first time I heard this song on the radio and getting annoyed that I didn't know who the artist was as I fell in love with the song as soon as I heard it. After a quick search on YouTube, I was quick to downloaded the song straightaway. Three years on, it is still a favourite of mine.
This song is another favourite of mine from this decade.

Your all time favourite song

This isn't really an all time favourite, but these guys deserve a mention as I was a huge fan of theirs when I was a teenager. I was 13 yrs old when Blue released their debut single 'All rise'. My love for them soon turned into an obsession, but I didn't care. I was happy to cut out their faces from magazines and turn all their pictures into a collage Smiley Embarassed Enjoy:

Hope you guys enjoyed 'my music'.

Hi Zobia,

I hope I'm not breaking some earth-shattering news, but that song by Wet Wet Wet was originally released more like 45 year ago.

It was written by a band, you may of hear of, called "The Beatles".

See here: http://youtu.be/Y39MjhVrf_Y

One of my favourite covers of this song is the 1968 version, by Joe Cocker.

(Though there aren't any really good recordings on YouTube, but here's the closest I could find)
