@rong42 I agree, it does seem odd that the two tabs Authors and Posts are drawing from different sets of data.

Good point @revjonty I actually have no idea, but then I don’t really care that much, I shouldn’t think I feature on any list as I don’t do H&S at all, I tried, but too many people are on it immediately. The only thing I will say is, why is it not widely known?

@revjonty I completely agree with you regarding the announcement board, it's very easy to play the game there if you get in quick with a favourable opinion, seeing the "great job" responses getting double figure kudos just because they're on the first page of the thread getting the views can be frustrating when a post in H&S with a perfect answer doesn't get anything, but that's what the BA setters were introduced to try and help improve. The users of the forums are different too and has a big effect, new members after help don't understand the significance of kudos or BAs whereas frequent visitors to the site looking at the announcements would do and are more inclined to give kudos to like minded posts. Its not a perfect system by far as we all know.

@extreme_one the leaderboard has always been around and has shown kudos gained on the whole forum, originally you couldn't earn kudos in GD (or whatever name it had back then) and when kudos were introduced there, they were not included in the leaderboard. I'm unsure whether this was a giffgaff decision or if members were asked about it (might be worth a search to find out) but judging on how many perceived GD kudos back then I should imagine it was a move most members would have supported.

You're on this page with 856 kudos, if you haven't already found it 👍

@the_islander something happened on the communty that made me think of this thread again. So I looked up my place again, and it transpires that I'm now on this page, with 815 kudos.

So in a little over a month, 41 (of the good kind) kudos have vanished! Huh?

And that's depsite the fact I've earned roughly 370 additional kudos (the wrong kind, clearly) since this discussion took place.

This whole system is so full of holes it's ridiculous.
Isn't it?

That's bizarre @extreme_one on my view it says you're #381 with 873 kudos?!

I often wondered if people saw different totals, as my personal stats change depending on if I'm logged in or not. Think there's about a 15 kudos difference on the leaderboard when I'm logged in... I've always put this down to having kudos on sub forums such as content creators or the gameplan founders club for example and those not being 'visible' when logged out.

But to have such a big difference between two people's views is rather confusing.

Without some kind of confirmation from @t_will or another team member I can't see us ever working out the leaderboard tbh which is a shame.

I agree it's bizarre @the_islander, even moreso now I've checked again and I'm no longer on page 20, but back on page 19 with 873 kudos. It probably sounds as if I'm imagining things, I wish I'd screenshotted it now.
There's definitely something up with the database though as it was showing a different value earlier. Smiley Frustrated

It turns out it does show a different result depending on whether or not you're logged in.

This is the view I get when I'm logged out:

There's a reason we don't link to that leaderboard particularly prominently - it's not really a good measure of value. I'm not currently certain what feeds into it but we also don't use it to calculate anything on the community. In my mind it can be safely ignored - not only for that reason but because leaderboards don't promote a collaborative atmosphere. If you're looking to raise your ranking compared to someone else, you're looking at how you can be better than them, not how you can work together or learn from them.

I think we've had a discussion on the community about it before, but when Kudos can mean 'this is funny' on GD, and 'this is insightful' in Help, we need to treat them differently. The more important a Kudos is in context, the more we need to weight it - so those posts that get hundreds of Kudos on a whim don't eclipse those excellent posts that get a few Kudos from people who really know what they're talking about.

Some of you might remember a survey I did a few months ago about what people used Kudos for, and I'm hoping what we implement off the back of that will be helpful in piecing out these different purposes and weightings, but that's a little off topic Smiley Tongue

Thanks for the update @t_will

I was more approaching the issue from the viewpoint of trying to understand it, rather than how it beneffited (or not) me personally.

I like to know how things work, and when they appear not to, or not in the logical sense, then that frustrates me.

Looking forward to seeing your improvements in the future...

ps. I'm now a member of the 10,000+ Kudos (despite them mostly being of the wrong variety) Smiley LOL
