Following on from this thread about GD...
I'd like some clarification on something if possible, @t_will posted in the above thread,
"We're not in the business of just putting any old crap up just because it gets clicks"
So i report certain things that i feel are exactly how he describes, but going by this guide, those things are actually acceptable.
What you should not report:
Non Pointless Posts - It is important not to be too vigilant with posts that you deem pointless and is only really about spam or unhelpful answers in help. For example, you should not report posts in the Social: General Discussion board for being pointless, that's the point of this board.
The last few lines are in direct contradiction to what @t_will posted in my thread.
So what do we abide by?
@natty_noo you are right clarification is needed.
I myself only report spam posts or if old threads that are no longer relevent are brought back to life i report so they can be locked.
I had no idea you could be suspended for reporting to much maybe i will be more mindful before reporting now.
I think the line in that guide was written in 2012. 'Pointless' meant something very different and specific in the community then - someone posting 'I agree, this would solve your issue' in Help was and is a somewhat pointless post, but someone might post something like 'I agree with everything you've said, and I'm really glad you put it that way' in response to a GD thread and people would report it for being 'pointless', as they had the Help mindset.
We should probably change that guide to reflect the current day - talking it through with our KB editors would be a good start, I reckon.
So for clarification @t_will , which is the true statement, "we're not in the business of putting up any old crap" said by you in 2018, or GD is for exactly that, pointless posts, from a 2012 guide?
Not that i'll be reporting anything again, but others do need it clarifying as well.
