Note: I've moved this from Announcements to Contribute while we're correcting an error I made in totalling the nominations. The original post is below but please bear in mind that the top five charities and potentially the dates listed may change as we work. Please read the first page of posts for more information.

Hi all, thanks for all your nominations for the charity Payback vote this Payback period. We've been in touch with all the charities and are just putting the finishing touches on the email that we'll be sending round for the vote.

I'm happy to say that the charities in the running this time around are:

  • Alzheimer's Society
  • Maggie's Centres
  • Mind
  • Shelter
  • William's Fund (for Oxford Hospitals Charity)

We had over 150 causes nominated this time around, from causes that were near and dear to your hearts. I'm sure that with the stories you had to tell about the good member donations can do, people will be able to make the best choice for them.

Starting on Wednesday, December 5th, we'll be sending an email round to every member with Payback points, inviting them to vote on giffgaff.com. Keep an eye out on your inbox, as the link in that email is the only way that you can cast your vote - one vote per email. After a full week of voting, the vote will close at 23:59 on December 11th, and the top two charities at that point will be our winners. Any Payback that members choose to donate to charity this period will be split between the two, and we will then match the donation to each charity.

Payback selection will close on December 16th, and we'll announce the winners on the community shortly after the decision is made, so there will be plenty of time to make an informed decision about where your money will go.

Thanks again for all your nominations and in advance for your votes.

Will

It doesn't matter who the top 2 are because they're all deserving charities.

Hey Will @t_will

Could you please clarify the reason why 3 charities and not just 1 (from the "black" list) have been shortlisted this time?

Thanks.

Thank you for raising this, I'll have another look at the nominations. You're quite right - while these were our top nominated charities, we've said previously that only one charity who has received donations beforehand would be eligible in any one period.

My apologies to everyone. I'll talk with the team here about how we proceed and what we can do in the time we have available and get back to you soon.

By my calculations only Alzheimer's Society is eligible to go through, and both Mind And Shelter should drop down to make space for the next highest nominees.

Can you please private message me your calculations here? This isn't congruent with what I have on my nominations tracker, but I think a second opinion is really important.

I'm going to spend my evening tonight re-auditing the nominations to make sure that we have our final five fully correct, and I'm going to move this thread from Announcements to Contribute while we work it out.

My concerns came true, sort of Smiley Tongue

https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Announcements/Nominations-closed-Payback-Charity-Nominations-Decem...

Hopefully this will get sorted out very quickly, and maybe next time around it might be an idea to involve a few members who can keep spreadsheets themselves, just to compare the results before actually going live with them.

As the saying goes, every little helps.....that includes helping out in any way possible!
