This is, unfortunately, something that's outside of my remit
Who's remit does it fall under then?
My guess is that the answer to that it is no-one's specific responsibility. Since we no longer have a Head of Community, it should really be everyone's responsibility.
From what you have posted and from other things I've read over the last few years, it seems that everyone there has their own little projects to play with and would rather do that so looking after the day to day business of the community comes a long way second.
While I am aware that there are a few staff members who do try, they are few in number and for the most part the general feeling is that we are constantly ignored. That might sound harsh but that's the way it feels and leads me, and others I'm sure, to wonder why we bother.
Carry on like this and you'll end up with a community peopled only by those who are there for the money.
I’m not one to shy away from telling it how it is, but I fear that this discussion is veering off track a little. There’s nothing wrong with questioning the credibility of the awards, but the OP started the discussion with good intentions, and it’s rather unfortunate that other issues are being brought to the fore.

Hmm.. So I can carry out a poll for the community, however, I'm not too sure it would be relevant for our social channels just yet. Our biggest challenge last year was that there are two different worlds between our social community and you. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just there's different functions for both. On Facebook it's mostly about posts for people to interact with and we do have a small amount of people who are helping others but it's not widely known that they are giffgaff members responding. So the challenge has always been about bridging the two platforms together so if I were to do a poll I will probably have it for this community, you guys only.
If you are going to do a poll Amy,i think facebook and twitter should still be involved,it may well be 2 different worlds but there are still helpers on both of them (whether anyone knows them as giffgaff members or not) i'm sure there are a few that are giffgaff members,it will just need to be different from the poll you do here on the community, after all they're opinion is as valid as ours, otherwise i get the feeling it's going to be the same old members doing it.
We need to reach as many members as poss,so maybe put the poll in most of the forums (especially general discussion as many don't tend to venture over here on contribute)
Thoughts on the poll maybe
(1) no awards, but a shout out to all members.
(2) awards online, members leading
(3) awards online/face to face at giffgaff hq staff & members leading
(4) no awards, more staff interaction & getting involved throughout the year, kudos,pm,interactions in threads
(5) awards online, more catergories, members leading/similar to charity vote with top 5 for each catergory.
(6) awards online, members & staff leading, more interaction with staff throughout the year, through threads
I'm sure there are more ways than i have put but i'm just putting a few idea's out there if a poll will move us all forward.

Fair comment but the issues are connected.
giffgaff's awards are designed to improve community morale but, based on past experience, they are going to do little to help. Addressing the other main issue that has been brought up here would make a big improvement.
I would like to see a separate thread on that subject but if we start it, we are just moving into Groundhog day territory again. It's something I believe giffgaff needs to start taking seriously but there's little sign that will happen.
I'll say no more...
Hey @ray2 thank you for starting the options for the poll. So far we have:
(1) no awards, but a shout out to all members at the end of the year
(2) no awards but regular shout out to all members all year round
(3) awards online and face to face at giffgaff office with staff & members leading
(4) no awards, more staff interaction & getting involved throughout the year, kudos, pm, interactions in threads
(5) awards online, more categories, members leading/similar to charity vote with top 5 for each category.
(6) awards online, members & staff leading, more interaction with staff throughout the year, through threads
(7) awards online, members leading
Does anyone have any more they would like to add?
P.S. I have flagged this thread to be taken in to be discussed with one of the managers. It's a start that I do have control over but it will fall an each of us to make more of an effort, which is why when I can, I will put in more effort in from now on.
At giffgaff we believe that when we all work together, we can really go places. We are the mobile network run by you.

I would also like to express my thanks and respect to you for the fact that having walked into a difficult situation you have done all in your power to keep with it and work with us as far as your remit allows.
A big shout out of THANKS to you!
That's +1 from me!
And another from me ... it’s rare these days to see an educator stick with a thread they’ve started let alone one you’ve walked into... thanks

And from me. Also I would like to vote for more than one of the suggestions outlined as I don't feel they are mutually exclusive.
