I have a suggestion.

Awards scrapped, but...
Whatever funds were going to go to these awards should be diverted towards this...

We will all get a fuzzy feeling.

And..
It goes some way towards making up for the tree planting thing that never happened.

That's an interesting thought. Speaking of the outage, I will need to wait until Monday with the poll because the team were working their socks off yesterday and they will still be discussing what happens next today. It's important that everyone is on board with the poll and what happens off the back of it, so that is why you won't see anything over the weekend.

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend.

While I was writing up the new thread with the poll, it sprang to mind that maybe there's still more to discuss. The idea is around recognition as a whole, not just run by you awards specifically. Woody, you said your VIG badge is far more valuable to you than the awards were this year. Is this because the community campaigned to have this status given to you?

As the awards was brought to life as a way of recognising you guys and the things you do, would it be better if I were to ask what different ways you want to be recognised instead?

@amy_b_d yes,my VIG badge is priceless because it's a perfect example of just how the "run by you" ethos should work when it can.

Back in 2012 giffgaff launched Blackberry Services after letting members down twice by announcing the launch then delaying it but one problem that still remained was that potential new members were having trouble getting their Blackberrys unlocked so that they could join giffgaff. So as an engineer that works in comms I set about setting up a free service to unlock their Blackberrys for them which later expanded to other makes of handsets and by the time I had to close the project down because the costs had got out of hand (giffgaff didn't contribute a single penny towards my running costs) I'd unlocked just short of 6,000 phones free of charge for giffgaff members.

My VIG badge was the fastest implemented idea in the history of the old ideas board (the one that unlike Labs, actually worked),it was proposed on 24/12/2012

and I was kindly awarded VIG status on 08/01/2013

So all in all about as "run by you" as you can get,my VIG status was suggested by members, then voted for by members in recognition of a project that I ran to help other members.

I comparison, the last lot of giffgaff awards would have been better named as "run by who?",which is why I opted not to accept mine.

Hey @woodyuk @amy_b_d

Man that was awesome of you and i can see why the community hit you with THE VIG

We need more member involvement in these, as i see @bluemoonbaz said the idea was originaly for an end of the year members shout out .

I think thats what we need a full on members led shout out like they did with you woody .

Ask the members what has been great in the year and who was the instigators.

I think this will give the scheme back its original meaning

@ijustcantdoit yes I couldn't agree more we need a system that's entirely member led.

I'm not sold on more awards but perhaps a yearly or 6 monthly round up of who's been doing what in the community would be an idea and give lots of members the chance to be mentioned so making the whole project a lot more inclusive.

@woodyuk

A yearly round up / shout out for the members by the members is perfect .

Exactly what the original idea was

(New Years honours list) 😏👍

Thanks guys, this is really insightful. I have a couple more questions for those of you who would like to answer.
How important to you is it that the recognition comes from your peers or from giffgaff staff?

I think both are as important as each other @amy_b_d and both having an involvement in the process is valuable.
