So with that, this is where I am at with the poll:

- Extra Payback

Not a good idea.

Bringing money into this is guaranteed to create bad feeling.

And one final thought...

If some sort of recognition is going to be doled out, I hope you will ask the individuals singled out right at the start if they actually want public recognition. Not everyone needs or wants that sort of thing.

Hi @amy_b_d

Thank you. I have read the thread @ijustcantdoit is correct to say that there is different kinds of talent. Expanding the awards would be a good idea.

I would also like to say that a balance of the type of reward you get is awfully important. As for me a Thank you means the world to me. However, some it maybe they need that wider recognition such as a public shout, some may like it secretive . However, some may just want to like some montary reward.

Its very different blend, if done correct it will make a nice dish of perfection.

Also wanted to point out staffers are as much as part of the community as eh maybe different capacity but they are still community. So I really dont want to say OR i wanna say BOTH (member and staffers) to be there to recognise others for the hard work they out in.

If we were to go with the kind of 6 monthly roundup/newsletter that I was thinking of,listing who's done what in various sections of the community in the last half a year then we wouldn't need any nominations or voting and so no room for arguments or ill feeling.

Morning folks!
So I'm hearing every 6 months we should have a shout out more than other ideas. After my meeting yesterday I had a quick chat with the other community team folks and told them how this conversation is going. If the current sentiment is to not have an award ceremony then the rest of the community team are happy with that but I'll still put the poll out first thing this morning with the additional options of yearly or every 6 months. (Which I think is a much better solution to an award ceremony.)

I'll also let you know about my particular team's (me, Ria and Aggie) plans. Originally we were thinking this was an idea that can replace the awards but it's evolved since this discussion has been going on and the overal sentiment for having awards has decreased. I mentioned previously we want to have this 'always on recognition' approach and say thank you when it's relevant and still feels fresh. It's an additional way how we want to keep run by you alive throughout the year. Nothing is set in stone yet but we want to surprise and delight some members, and make other giffgaff members who haven't been part of the community learn a little bit more about the amazing things you guys do every day.

Right, enough dilly-dallying. I'm going to put the thread out now. =)

Edit: Here's the poll

  1. In my personal opinion, I really don't see the need for the "Run by you awards'.

My reasons being, which ever way it's done, either the staff voting for the nominated members, or members voting for them, it is open to abuse.

As a Community, we all contribute in our own ways, whether it be just a few posts occasionally or regular posters like myself, we all add that small piece to a very big jigsaw.

I think awards are a bit unfair really, as some members can't post on a regular basis and so get left out.

It's a Community and as such we all deserve a named recognition award as we all are part of it.

Payback is an Award in itself.

Why want more?

It creates unnecessary work and potential bad feeling.

Note: These is just my personal opinion, before anyone shoots me down. 😉😉

Updated:

I truly feel instead of wasting time on pointless awards, giffgaff needs to seriously get it's act together regarding the issues that members are experiencing on help and support.

I do go on there and it is not good for a company when potential members are being left frustrated by the delay in agents getting back to them regarding issues that us regular members cannot solve.  Its bad customer service and that will not get new members.

So come on giffgaff, get your priorities sorted. 😉

When it comes to recognition of the tremendous efforts made by many members over many years, even from the very beginning I do believe it is rather demeaning to these members to rename 'The Panel' to Giffgaff Pioneers when many are new and as yet have made no significant contribution to date.
Maybe they will in future, but for now those members here form the start and make a significant contribution every day are surely the GiffGaff pioneers.

Thanks guys, this is really insightful. I have a couple more questions for those of you who would like to answer.
How important to you is it that the recognition comes from your peers or from giffgaff staff?

I think both are as important as each other @amy_b_d and both having an involvement in the process is valuable.

Plus one on the above , I think a return to some 'giffgaffiness ' would be good for both the members and the staff at gg HQ
