imagine the £5 labs as line renta / service charge. you pay it then get really cheap calls and texts which are paid from your standard.

the line rental idea is probly the simplist way to think of it.

so much cheaper than bt / virgin at over 8p a min 2 and at approx £13 line rental

GIFFGAFF all the way !!!!

Can anyone tell me this .... I have the labs goodybag, but I also have a query - will I get the reduced rate if I top up again before the month is up? Or will it only give the reduced rate on credit bought at the same time as the labs gb?

The labs bag lasts for the duration of one month from purchase, if you top up again before that month is up, then any new credit will still benefit from the reduced rates.

Thank you Darrenpainter, not only an informative reply but prompt as well! I am impressed, but getting used to being impressed, since I found the giffgaff network and this brilliant site!

I feel like I've been mislead too, though I don't think GiffGaff would ever deliberately mislead I think this labs goodybag idea needs to be explained in a much clearer way. I just bought one with just 60p credit left then couldn't understand at first why the 60p was going down after I bought the bag. I assumed, like it would appear a lot of other people have assumed, that you get £5.00 worth of calls and texts at a reduced rate until the £5.00 runs out which isn't the case. Thinking about it, if this were the case then there would be no point to any of the other goodybags but people usually see what they want to see. Oh well suppose I'm just gonna have to fork out another tenner.

it is misleading. You don't get 2p calls and 1p texts for £5. You have to pay for the calls from your credit so the cost in the end is much more. It's not worded very well and this has stopped me signing up yet because the rates are not that good.

you pay £5 for the privledge to pay only 1p for texts and 2 p for calls for the month

just like paying £5 for a months discount pass
