Thankyou@techiebloke for the info. Routers seem to be very expensive. So many ISP's to choose from but the information youve supplied is excellent - so thank you for that.

Wow you've been through quite a few ISP's throughout the years!
Freeserve and orange broadband are definitely retro!

I left VM after many years with them as they were unwilling to offer a sensible deal.

Sky had a good triple package offer and I went for the fibre package. If you are doing any film downloading you will need their unlimited product. Speed is about 40Mbs for me, it is still over twisted pair phone line from the cabinet to the house. On balance I also prefer the V6 to the Q box

What do I think ?. It's not as fast, noticeable when downloading large files (say an installation CD) but it does the job, probably better than I expected.

I have Plusnet ADSL at work and have used a number of providers there. Plusnet seem to have been more reliable than Sky where I seemed to be having constant reboots and IP address changes.

I've been with VM for many years now. Well over 13 tbh.

Everytime I've called them up to negotiate a better deal I've always got one.

The quickest fibre deal for me with another provider with get me a 20MB speed tops. With VM I'm on a 350MB package.

I'm now out of contract and this post has inspired me to give them a ring and get a better deal. #NextDayOff

You're doing far better than me, @dez_d. I got nowhere with them last time I tried to get a better deal.

The family are addicted to netflix! 20MB/s would be awful here. They whinged until I did some serious work on the local network to make that part of it better!

Ooh, nostalgia. We were with Freeserve's dial-up once upon a time. Before that… Demon! The fun of narrowband modems and the "punts" for delivering email. :-)
