Hi all,

I recommended Giffgaff to a family member and she used and enjoyed the service. She is currently abroad (outside the EU) and isn't using the number but intends to visit every year, but has recently received a message that she may lose the number due to inactivity. What can she do to keep the number so she can simply use it when she returns.

Obviously buying a goodybag is silly since she can't use it, but is there another option. Thanks.

@kasionz

Hi.

Hi giffgaffers,

Recycling old mobile phone numbers will affect numbers that we consider inactive, so this will only impact you if you have a phone with an activated giffgaff SIM that hasn’t been used in six months. To keep your SIM active, all you have to do is one or more of the following once every 6 months:

· a) make at least one call, SMS or MMS to another number (not including calls to emergency services )
· b) make at least one connection to the Internet
· c) make at least one airtime credit or goodybag purchase

@kasionz

if she wanted to keep the number she'd be better putting credit on phone & send a text or make a call once every 3 months to be on the safe side

So i'm assuming the connection to the internet would have to be through a plan and not wifi?
Can she just add £1 airtime credit and be okay then?

The £10 airtime would be better as long as she keeps her SIM active it won't expire so will be there when she's next here to either use as credit or buy a goodybag from.

+ one for air time credit and one out going call or text per 6 month interval.

Use it or lose it, as they say
To giff is better than to gaff
